IM your WoW guild leader, tell your favorite comic book shop you won’t be coming in and hang up your Star Trek unitard cause your staying in this Friday night for a kick in the balls movie about your favorite “B” grade movie actor. That’s right, a new film out for rental comes from one of the most esteemed, favorite Sci-Fi/Horror actors of all time, Bruce Campbell, in My Name is Bruce.

Big ol’ Bruce has brought us another stellar performance with his new film My Name is Bruce. Filled with everything from a geek’s wet dream, we are thrown into a film about the real-life actor Bruce Campbell. The story revolves around this great “B” grade movie actors life as one who does cheap-ass films that are never really good. (Sadly not far from reality; McHale’s Navy anyone?) During this time in a small-ass backward town of Gold Lick, Oregon, some goth teens raise up some evil spirit called Guan-Di. One of the goth teen survivors (A huge Bruce Campbell fan) decides that the only one who could stop this is his favorite zombie slicing bad mo-fo. So as Bruce is enjoying a quiescent time at home, his tranquility is interrupted by a knock at the door. Bruce then takes a long trunk ride to our little forgotten town of Gold Lick, where he proceeds to do as Bruce Campbell would do when faced with a situation like this: bail.

After seeing his last movie The Man with the Screaming Brain and not truly caring about it as another one of my compatriot’s had, I was skeptical about this one but was floored by what I believe is his best acting yet, playing himsef! Bruce comes off as a little less self-absorbed version of his character Ash from Army of Darkness, which a lot of people believe movie actors are like. Even his cohort in crime Ted Rami had an appearance in the movie, not once but thrice, playing his manager, the town’s only custodian and some creepy old Chinese guy. The movie also touches on most of his acting achievements, from the very first movie people have come to love, Evil Dead, to the more to the more hardcore fan-based favorite, Bubba Ho-Tep, and pokes fun at them at Bruce’s expense.

Being filled with mindless violence, familiar faces and jokes only the die hard fans would get, we are left with the ultimate in all of Bruce Campbell’s films. This one’s for you Brucie: “Hail to the King Baby!”.
