Despite its cryptic title, recently announced Capcom title Ghost Trick should intrigue would-be Dual-Screen detectives. From Ace Attorney creator Takumi Shuu, Ghost Trick for the Nintendo DS will have players will step into the role of main character Sissel as he solves a homicide, armed only with his wits. And some undisclosed special powers. There’s once catch; Sissel is dead and he is assisting in solving his own murder. With only a few hours to solve the mystery, Sissel is a accompanied by an appropriately mysterious Redheaded female detective, who he‘ll have to protect from harm. No word yet on if there will be a passionate pottery-sculpting sequence or Whoopi Goldberg in a supporting role. There’s also an image of blue-skinned character wielding a T for Teen-rated shotgun. He might cause a little trouble on Sissel’s road to redemption. The title is set to release in Japan in 2010 with no confirmation of an EU or North American release.

Crime-fighting ghosts on the Nintendo DS sounds like a sure-fire hit with Japanese gamers. A North American release seems like the next progression for the title, with the popularity of the Ace Attorney series fuelling sales with players looking for something similar. As much as I enjoyed the Ace Attorney series, the best parts the game were the crime scene investigation, and this series looks like it could deal more with evidence collection and deductive reasoning. Also, portable detective skills could prove useful if you I ever have to team-up with a redhead to takedown a blue-skinned freak toting a shotgun. I think I saw that once on Law and Order.
