Great news true believers. The new Marvel Ultimate Alliance game previously entitled Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2:Fusion has dropped the goofy “Fusion” moniker and will now be based on the events of 2006’s blockbuster crossover event Civil War. In case you were unavailable during the summer of 06, Civil War was, at least in my mind, the best thing that marvel had published in years. As a long time Marvel reader I thought that Civil War accomplished what Marvel had been trying to do for years (House of M anybody); captivate comic readers with an all encompassing story line that would effect every facet of their universe.
The story itself was pretty much what the name would suggest; a significant event divides the loyalties of the costumed super humans and forces them to take sides. Chances are, if you’re reading this you know the details, and if you don’t I won’t ruin it for you because it’s well worth the read. Trust me on this if you haven’t grabbed Civil War go get the trade paperbacks, you won’t regret it.
Now onto Ultimate Alliance 2. The media is just starting to get their hands on playable levels
from the game and indicators are that it’ll be a winner. An interesting take away for me was that
this time around the player will have the option which side of the Civil War they choose. Ok, I
lied I will give one spoiler away about Civil War’s plot. You have to choose who you’ll back Iron Man or Captain America; the game is months away and I’m already doing a pros/cons list for both of them.
Apparently there are multiple endings as well. I don’t know about you, but I think that the only thing that could get me to pop a bigger nerd boner than a Civil War, What If video game mashup, would be Superman showing up in the next Batman movie. My main complaint about the last Ultimate Alliance was the “on rails” nature of the gameplay, but it looks like that’s beem fixed for this go round.
All in all, I loved the first game and would have looked forward to it no matter what, but basing it on Civil War is a no lose proposition for the folks at Marvel, Activision and Vicarious Visions.

I hope SpeedBall is a selectable character
don’t you mean Penance?? :D
Does anyone know what the support system will be like (either Iron Man or Captain America)? Will it be choose any side and any character or will it be that certain sides of different characters available? This brings up the question about characters whom switched sides. How will that be handled?
