THQ plans to add another space-consuming new device to your living room, along with that dusty Wii Fit Balance Board and broken Guitar Hero II guitar. In a report from The Los Angles Business Journal, THQ’s CEO Brian Farrell made a comment about a new controller-based game peripheral, stating:
“We have something that we think is different from anything else out there and will give us a competitive
advantage,” Farrell said. “Beyond that, we can’t say much.”
With all the hype about motion-control at this year’s E3, you’d think the developers were content with the
peripherals available to create an engaging experience for players. What is THQ planning? There isn’t much space between three different drumset options, three different motion-control opftions, and a new guitar for each new guitar hero. Maybe a head-tracking device similar to the TrackIR PC device used with Il-Sturmovik. Or possibly a 21st century version of the power glove. It’s a safe bet that the new peripheral will be tied to a new franchise, with the hope that it will have mainstream appeal. THQ is well-known for the WWE Raw Vs. Smackdown series of wrestling games, as well as the Mx (motocross) series. On the horizon, THQ will release the First-person shooter Homefront. Can players expect a revolutionary new FPS control? Whatever THQ has planned, there should be some more news within the next few months, maybe at this year’s PAx.
