It’s time once again for everyone’s favorite review (and by everyone I mean like the hundred or so people who bother to read it) The second best thing Cool Terry Pulled this week (and if you have to ask what the first is your not thinking hard enough) anyways back to comics the last couple of weeks have been great most if not all of my purchases have been good and this week continues the trend.
First we have Batman and Robin # 4 by Grant Morrison and Philip Tan and Jonathan Glapion (Frank Quitely was the previous artist) and while sometimes when you have an artist change your comic misses a step or hits a bump in the road that is not the case here. This story is about the return of the Red Hood and his new crusade to clean up Gotham (in his world the punishment should fit the crime which means he’s going to kill you if you break the law) now last time I said that it would be Jason Todd under the Hood and while we don’t see it for sure there are hints that it’s Jason and it’s the first thing Dick asks when he confronts the Red Hood. So this is a violent comic with the Red Hood dealing out deadly punishment to the criminals of Gotham city and as I said earlier the art holds up well my favorite would be the title page where we see the Red Hood and his side kick Scarlet running towards you in a Batman Robin like pose. So this one gets 8 slaughtered gangsters out of 10.
Next we have Brubaker’s Captain America Reborn #3 of 5 as with all things Brubaker I liked this
comic and seeing as he only has two issues left till Steve Rogers returns (or at least that’s what I assume will happen at the end of this comic it is called Captain America Reborn after all) I figure that we will see a big clash between the major players next issue (those being the current Captain America Bucky, Norman Osborn and the Red Skull). This issue gave us more of a time jumping or memory jumping Steve Rogers who after jumping back and re-living the secret wars leaves a secret message with the Robot Vision (advice on where he is would be my guess or maybe it’s to tv Heroes being dead and all he’s missing it) as well as Bucky’s escape from Norman Osborn’s clutches. While comics usually turn out the way we think they will (we wouldn’t read them if we were always wrong) how fucked up would it be if the Red Skull actually won and put his mind in that of Captain America’s body but that would probably be to much of a stretch to sell to the readers, anyways as always a solid comic 7.5 frozen super soldiers out of 10.
Now first off I have never been a fan of the Ultimate Universe (and probably never will be) but despite that I picked up Armor Wars # 1 of 4 (mostly because it was written by Warren Ellis). So to catch you up a bit in the Ultimate U, Magneto launches a attack against the world, giant battle ensues and in the process Wolverine dies at Iron Man hands (he was controlled by Magneto) (on a side note whats up with Wolverine dying I mean in the Ultimate U and in X-Men Forever, I know Characters have to die but what is it pick on Wolverine year? Wasn’t the fact that they made the origins movie punishment enough) so the world is left in ruin and that’s where we pick up. So apparently in the Ultimate U Iron Man is still a arrogant, flippant booze swilling ass (good start, this is the way I like to see Tony Stark) so this issue pretty much just deals with Stark returning to New York to shut down Stark Tower and collect a item from storage (something called remnant 242 ) where it is stolen by another Iron Man suit with the ability to phase through stuff throw in a damsel in distress and you have a comic (I figure with a title like this Tony will end up facing other Stark tech armor in this 4 issue series but that’s just a guess). So while I’m not a fan of the Ultimate U I did enjoy this issue take it for what it is 7 out of 10.
So till next week this is Cool Terry saying
“Just because a guy reads comics doesn’t mean he can’t start some $@#%!”
