Alright so I’m late again in writing my review of what comics I pulled last week, I got busy then came Beatles Rock Band and… well you get the point so sorry for the wait.
First on the list is the new Northlanders comic Sven the Immortal now for those you reading Northlanders you know all about Sven already those who haven’t well here’s a brief recap. Sven was once a Viking warrior who returned home to find that his uncle had stolen his birth right so after trying to reclaim said birth right Sven grows up and realizes that the way he has gone about life might be wrong so after a lot of fighting and killing Sven takes a self-imposed exile (with wife) to live out the remainder of his days. The story picks up years later with Sven his wife and his 2 children Sven is very old at this point and it would seem that the younger generation of vikings out there figure that a quick way to get a reputation would be to kill old Sven. This results in much ass kicking as Sven beats the shit out of the new generation of warriors out in the world (and by beat I mean kill). I love this series and this is a great book so grab these in trade and catch up now 8 gutted viking corpses out of 10.
Next Incognito #6 this wraps up Ed Brubaker’s first story arc where we final see where the
character Zack Overkill goes, now it’s pretty easy to see what side he will end up on but it’s still a really good story one that I strongly suggest up pick up. This issue you find out Zack’s true origin which will probably have a big part to play in future issues. Now despite the fact that you can guess the out come of this comic a mile away it’s still worth the read and I’m not just saying this because (as some on our staff will say) I have a man crush on Ed Brubaker it’s just a fun story to read it’s not as good as his work on Criminal but it’s still good and the last pulp write up in the back was really good (for those of you who don’t know at the end of each issue is a couple of pages written up on either a pulp comic character or a type of pulp comic these are very cool to read). Now I said enough about this comic series in the past so if you haven’t picked this up yet you probably won’t so I’ll stop harping on it all ready 7.5 exploding hearts out of 10.
Last we have the third issue of Mice Templar from the second story arc (Destiny). Unlike some of our staff who cannot get enough of anamorphic animals I’m not a huge fan this type of comic, but this is one comic I look forward to buying each new issue. I’m not sure if it’s just my love of fantasy or the Templar story or the talking animals or all of this combined everything about this book works the art the story all of it and if you haven’t had a chance to read this series yet go get it really it’s just awesome. In the third issue we find Karic and Cassius in the bright realm on the other side of the haunted wood where after a close call with a reanimated dead cat and a fight with a hornet Cassius informs Karic that his Templar training will finally begin for real as well as a one armed Leito takes it upon himself to give the other captured mice hope by staging a daring escape from the prison they are held in. The more of this comic I read the more and more I seem to grow to like anamorphic animals this is that good of a comic so even if you don’t like talking animals you should pick up the first trade you’ll be won over of this I’m sure. this comic gets a 8 out of 10 Templar swords.
