David Carradine born December 8 1939 in Hollywood California, under his real name of John Arthur Carradine. As he started his movie career he decided to change his first name to what what we know and love now as David. Mr. Carradine’s first movie roll was in the film “Taggart” which was based off the novel by Louis L’Amour. The movie was set in the old west where newly arrived settlers are attacked by a local ranch owner. Taggart helped push David Carradine into the spot light but wasn’t what found him fame. It wasn’t until a little show that was imagined by Bruce Lee about a Shaolin monk who travels the western world trying to find his long lost brother while fleeing China. While in the western world he uses his spiritual beliefs and his knowledge of kung Fu to help escort him to his goal. The show was Kung Fu. Orginally the main character, Kwai Chang Caine, was suppose to be played by Bruce Lee, but instead it was offered to David Carradine without the knowledge to Mr. Lee.
David Carradine was on the up and up after this and people really began to fall in love with his character Kwai Chang Caine , and soon stared in movies such as Death Race 2000 and the very popular Kill Bill series. But he (like all actors) played in some horrible yet entertaining movies such as Evil Toons and Sundown: The vampire in retreat.
David Carradine was so fascinated with Eastern philosophies and culture after the stink with Kung Fu that it resulted in him writing the book “Spirit Of The Shaolin” which detailed the philosophy of Kung Fu.
But as of June 04 2009, the world had lost this great man. He was found in a hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand suspended by a rope in his closet. As apparent as it might be suicide there maybe some factors at work here that the police and investigators have not leaked out to the public. All I can wish for is the best for his family and if this is truly not a suicide I do hope that they find whoever set out to do this to a 72 year old man. What ever the outcome maybe I urge you, the readers not to bombard his family with interview questions or photos. When the family is ready they will talk and let you know whats going on.
From all of us at ESG, God speed, we will miss you.
