Not that I was really worried, but yesterday, while appearing on Simon Mayo‘s BBC radio show(can one appear on a radio show?),Guillermo del Toro confirmed that Ian McKellan, Hugo Weaving, and Andy Serkis will be reprising the rolls they played in Peter Jackson‘s Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Many felt that Serkis stole the show in Jackson’s trilogy with his portrayal of the tortured, and twisted Gollum. Gollum is every bit as integral to The Hobbit as he was to LOTR and I don’t think that anybody would accept anybody other than him as that creepy little gray thing. McKellan and Weaving, who will play Gandalf and Elrond respectively are both solid actors and their return to Middle Earth is welcome news to fans.
Other than that news, Del Toro had a little bit of info on the movie’s plot and had a little bit to say about Hellboy III, and his Frankenstein movie. Despite the slim pickings in the news department Del Toro is an awfully interesting guy to listen to if you want to check the show out.
