Another week has passed us by and that means once again you are going to be subjected to another edition of The second best thing Cool Terry pulled this week. So while there is alot to choose from (as usual) I will be bringing you 4 comics and my thoughts on them.
First up Captain America Reborn # 2 of 5 was it good?…. yes, Was it great? … no this is still just a set up comic leading up to Cap’s return. Half of the comic is spent watching Cap reliving moments of his life and the other half is spent with Bucky (the new Captain America) breaking into a H.A.M.M.E.R. Helicarrier along with the Black Widow where they face off against Norman Osborn’s Avengers, the book ends with their capture and an ultimatum from Osborn. With 3 issues left the pacing of this comic is going to pick up and end with a bang (at least that’s what I think) if your a fan of Marvel’s Dark Reign you should be reading this since the return of Captain America will mess with Osborn and his plans in a big way. It’s a solid title with nice looking art and a good story. I would just like to see lees Captain America flash backs, they are good but in this issue there were too many pages of Cap’s memories for me but it’s only issue 2 so the set up’s pretty much over. Buy the first 2 issues and get on board before it’s to late.
Next we have DC’s Justice League cry for justice # 2 of 7. First off I want to say that I love the art in
this title, Mauro Cascioli is doing a fantastic job. So once again James Robinson writes a set up comic (since our heroes are just all starting to come together) and he does a great job of it on top of Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Congo Bill, Starman and Ray Palmer we add a few more new characters to the list of people seeking Justice in the world we get Jay Garrick (the flash), Captain Marvel, and at the end it looks like Supergirl will be joining the crew (this new group has some pretty heavy hitters). I think my favorite moment has to be the fight between Starman and Congo Bill it looks so sweet. This is shaping up to be a great series one which I’m following with more interest than Blackest Night. Like the first issue we get another origin story this time on Ray Palmer ( the Atom) as well as James Robinson’s thoughts on the comic I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m really like his letters at the end most times I just skim things like this but his I take the time to read not sure what it is but I like them. So if you haven’t picked this up do your self a favor and do so if not for James writing (top notch) then for Mauro’s work inside and out it’s not often you have the same guy doing the all the art work inside the book as well as the cover.
Switching back to Marvel we have Lake Cage Noir # 1 I’ve liked all the Noir comics so far and this one’s no exception. After being released from prison, Cage heads on back home to Harlem where he starts the process of getting his life back only to find out the girl he loved is dead (and something about doesn’t feel right). He is hired to find out who killed a white women in Harlem, and while digging up his dead girlfriends grave he is confronted with an old friend (who is hold a Tommy gun on him) Tombstone. Now as of the first issue we don’t know for sure if Luke has any powers or not so I can’t help you there. What will say is that I love the fact that noir or noir like comics are so big right now because of there popularity we get titles like this or Chew or Incognito, and this is a great thing. So pick up those or any of the Marvel Noir series and you will not be disappointed that I can assure you.
Last but not least we have Zeke Deadwood Zombie Lawman when I first heard about this I got
excited just the thought of a zombie dispensing justice in the old west is an awesome idea. And it turn out to be a good title with a Simpson’s reference and Zeke coming into town singing a Johnny Cash song it has a good start although I did find the ending a little lacking it’s still worth the read any day of the week. The comic it self is presented as an old time radio show which helps give it it’s corny feel and explains it’s simple ending as many of those radio shows did, you know what i mean good guy wins and rides off into the sunset deal. While it’s only a one shot deal at the moment I hope (if enough people buy it and want it) they decide to do more because the idea is so great it needs more comics. So if you like zombies and B-movie type stories go pick this up it’s a hidden gem out there waiting to be found so go now and buy it.
So once again this is Cool Terry reminding you
“Just because a guy reads comics doesn’t mean he can’t start some $@#%!”
