The first video game adaptation of the Iron Man movie might have been worth skipping, but the sequel will feature the work of one talented MF: Matt Fraction. Of course, Fraction is the writer of ongoing-monthly INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, and has worked on Marvel titles UNCANNY X-MEN and IMMORTAL IRON FIST. Fraction expressed enthusiasm about the new project:
“Writing a game presents an entirely new challenge, where the player engages with the world, with the big and small aspects of the place and characters. They’re a coconspirator in the narrative. I hope it’s as exciting and challenging to play as it was to write.”
Players will get their first glimpse of the game at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con in both the Marvel and Sega booths, and Matt Fraction will be on-hand to shake sweaty fanboy hands and scrawl his signature on mustard-stained t-shirts.
The Iron Man movie stands as one of the great superhero movies. Following that experience with a lacklustre game shouldn’t be a priority for movie fans and players. However, Matt Fraction working on a game is news worth keeping in mind when this title is on shelves Summer 2010. Note to game developer Sega Studios San Francisco: a detailed model of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is a must-have for the game; detailed textures of Mickey Rourke’s face should be avoided at all costs.
