It’s hard to find good female superhero costumes that are tasteful, but there are a few out there! Today, we continue on with my five-part guide to superhero Halloween costumes. In Part 2 of the Geek Chic guide for Halloween, we take a look at the best adult female Halloween costumes!
Emma Frost Sassy Prestige Adult Costume:
Unfortunately for most of us of the female persuasion, Halloween is a time when we’re expected to dress like a two-dollar hooker. Well, thankfully, now you can dress like a $4,000 a night hooker! I’m not really a big fan of the “sexy” female Halloween costumes, but when it comes to Emma Frost, this costume is spot on.
The good: This is a good way of supporting your inner comic geek while dressing sexy to impress the guys. It even comes with boot covers in case you don’t own your own white go-go boots.
The bad: Boobs not included, and most girls that can get away with wearing this costume are, let’s face it, pretty flat-chested. Don’t forget that you should be wearing blue or white lipstick with this, not red.
The ugly: If you’re larger than a size 12, don’t wear this costume. If you’re self-conscious, you might want to avoid it as well because men will definitely be looking in your direction. Also, you know, if you’re not a hooker.
Spider-Girl Classic Adult Costume:
This is actually a really cute and tasteful costume that’s great for those female fans of Spidey.
The good: This costume looks good without being immodest. It’s a cute and fun costume that’s simple but manages to convey the recognizable iconography.
The bad: No boot toppers on this one, ladies. Hope you have some boots to match!
The ugly: While there are some Halloween costumes (such as the Emma Frost costume) that you might not want to wear above a certain size, this costume seems to be one that would be plus-size friendly; unfortunately, they don’t have a plus-sized option for the curvy girl.
Supergirl Deluxe 1-Piece Adult Costume:
I’m not really sure what it is about Halloween costumes that they need to all be made out of shiny material, but in the case of this costume, I don’t really mind.
The good: This is another tasteful and classic costume. It’s simple and recognizeable, not to mention cute! It also comes in plus size, which is very welcome!
The bad: I’m not a real big fan of the metallic skirt and boot toppers, but you can get a “plain” version of the costume with regular red cloth. On the other hand, this one looks a little better than the “plain” version.
The ugly: For the love of everything that is dear, please wear panties when you wear this costume. Nobody wants to see what’s under your skirt if the wind blows it up, up, and away.
Watchmen Secret Wishes Sally Jupiter Adult Costume:
I have to admit that I’m in love with most of the Watchmen costumes. They’re really well done, and this original Silk Spectre outfit is no exception!
-The good: This is a great costume to look sexy in without having to show off too much skin or without looking a little too slutty. Sexy good, ladies, slutty bad.
-The bad: Not only does this not come with boot covers, it doesn’t come with the thigh-high fishnet stockings. Thankfully, you can get a pair fairly easily at a place like Frederick’s of Hollywood, but it’s still a pain.
-The ugly: Once again, please wear panties under this costume. Also, as much as I feel this would be an acceptable costume for the plus-sized lady, it is unfortunately only available up to size Medium.
-BONUS!: If you’re looking for a more tight-fitting, slightly sexier look, there’s a Silk Spectre II costume available as well. If you have a dark sense of humor, dress up at Sally Jupiter and get your boyfriend to dress up as the Comedian.
Captain America Female Classic Adult Costume:
I’m not a big fan of the men’s Captain America costumes, but this women’s costume is actually pretty decent. Although, if Steve Rogers were a woman, I’m not sure that he’d find a skirt very practical for fighting Nazis. Ah, well.
-The good: This is a simple and tasteful costume that, like the Spider-Girl costume, manages to convey the iconography of this famous superhero without being tasteless and gaudy. Plus, red and white waist stripes are slimming!
-The bad: Once again, Marvel has something against gloves. Why do you hate gloves so much, Marvel? They can’t make the costume cost that much more!
-The ugly: The boots aren’t included, and there are no boot covers. As well, the shield is a separate item, which will bump the cost of the costume up quite a bit if you need to buy red boots and a shield. Also, while this would be a tasteful plus-sized costume, it only goes up to a Large.
The Incredibles Mrs. Incredible Adult Costume:
BOOM! comics now has an ongoing Incredibles comic, so I don’t feel too bad about including this superheroine in our costume collection.
-The good: Here’s something a little different. Be a superhero and a supermom!
-The bad: This costume is a little baggier than the skin-tight costume you might expect. Once again, there are no gloves, but at least black gloves are easy enough to buy. You’ll also have to buy your own wig unless you’ve got the hair for this costume.
-The ugly: This costume only comes in “one size fits all” which generally means it might not be a great fit at all.
-BONUS!: With a Mr. Incredible and a Violet costume available, this could very well be a set of costumes the whole family can enjoy!
Gotham Girls DC Comics Harley Quinn Adult Costume:
Well, what would the Joker be without his favorite gal pa, Harley Quinn?
-The good: Hey, Mistah J! Look how adorable I am in this Harley Quinn Halloween costume! It’s adorable and yet somehow sassy at the same time.
-The bad: It’s a one-piece costume with the boot-tops attached to the jumpsuit, which can make it very awkward for people with longer legs.
-The ugly: Size small or medium only, and it seems to be a pretty popular costume.
-BONUS!: Don’t have a Joker to go with? Not a problem; convince one of your girlfriends to party with you dressed up as Poison Ivy!
There we have it, my top choices for this year’s female adult Halloween costumes. If you haven’t already, check out Part 1 of my series, where I discuss the best adult male costumes; and, of course, stay tuned for Part 3: Worst Male Costumes. These are the costumes you want to avoid at all costs, guys, so don’t miss it!

I might run the risk of sounding like a pig here, but if you’re a size 12 stay away from the Emma Frost costume. I’d say an 8 is pushing it. Sorry but sometimes the truth hurts, there’s lots of costumes that will make normal sized girls look hot, but leave the Emma Frost digs to the small girls…everbody will thank you.
It really depends on the girl, Mike. I know a girl that’s 5′11″ and a size 12, but she looks more like she’s an 8-10 because she’s so dang tall. I do agree, though. Leave the $4,000 hooker suit for the tiny girls.
Size 12???? Size 3 is too big, nothing like seeing a girl dressed up like Emma Frost but because she’s so fat she ends up to look like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. If that’s gonna be the case then they don’t even need to dress up, just as themselves.
You’ve got a way with the words Mr.Poop, can’t say as though I totally disagree with you though.
