Here we are, the end of the week and only two weeks left until Halloween! We’ve seen the best of the best and the worst of the worst as far as superhero Halloween costumes go this week, so what’s left? Well, I’ve got a few things here for us to take a look at. Just a few little odds and ends here and there that didn’t quite fit into the other categories for one reason or another. So, come with me as we explore our final day of my Geek Chic Halloween superhero costume guide!

CREME DE LA CREME: Costumes that are awesome, but out of the average person’s Halloween price range.

exp darkknight 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Batman Dark Knight Batman Heritage Collection: One of the best Batman costumes you’ll find out there — and for $439.99, it darn well better be! This highly articulate and very expensive costume tops our list for this section. No wonder it takes being a billionaire like Bruce Wayne to afford to be Batman; with prices like these, not just anyone can afford to fight crime!
No matter how hard you try, you won’t find a better, more authentic Dark Knight Batman costume out there. Unfortunately, you’ll have to decide between buying this costume and paying your car payment.

exp darkspidey 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Black-Suited Spider-Man Adult Costume: We’ve determined by now that nothing comes close to topping the price of the Batman costume mentioned above (actually, there are a few even more expensive costumes, but Batman is definitely the best of the best), but would you pay $180 for a Spider-Man costume? This lovely costume, the only version of Spidey that comes with gloves, by the way (who knew that gloves were so dang expensive) is definitely a step up from the more affordable Spider-Man costumes. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and think of all the comics you could buy with $180 instead of spending it on a web-slinging outfit!

exp superman 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Supreme Superman Muscle Chest Lycra Adult Costume: If there’s an overpriced Batman costume out there, then surely there must be an overpriced Superman costume to go with it. Of course, since Clark is such a goodie-goodie, the cost of this costume doesn’t come near the pricetag on the Dark Knight Batman costume. However, at a whopping $247, this costume isn’t kidding around!
Guys, I want you to look very carefully at this image. Zoom in on it to full size. Now, I want you to look at that unsightly mini-bulge and realize that could be you looking like a fool with your wiener poking out in a tight fitting costume. No, I won’t stop asking you to wear a cup. I don’t want to see your jingle jangle on Halloween!

exp v 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5V for Vendetta Grand Heritage Costume: Voila! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, dressed vicariously in vestments both valorous and valuable. Vindicate the vigilant and virtuous and spread vengeance with the visage of V from V for Vendetta.
Another very nicely done costume, including all extra accessories such as the belt with knives and, of course, the Guy Fawkes mask. For $170, this ensemble is almost worth it — if for nothing else to practice your v-word alliteration monologues on unsuspecting bystanders. With this costume, you’ll most certainly remember, remember the fifth of November.

exp joker 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Batman Dark Knight The Joker Grand Heritage Collection Costume: As you will surely recall from part 1 of this five-day comic book costume guide, I already covered a Joker costume. The costume itself was very nice with pinstriped pants, a jacket, a vest, etc. Unfortunately, as you may also recall, the mask that came with it was hideous. While this $160 Joker costume may not come with a mask, it does come with a makeup kit to paint your face up in the most authentic manner. As well, the overall tailoring of the suit is much nicer than with the less expensive version of this costume. Overall, this is a superior product with a lot of potential — if you can afford the high price tag, that is.

Next, we move on to…

HONORABLE MENTIONS: These are pretty cool costumes that didn’t quite make the cut for my “best” list but are still worth taking a look at.

hon spirit 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5The Spirit Adult Costume: The Spirit is, by far, one of my favorite classic comics. A character created by Will Eisner, the Spirit is sadly overlooked by many people; this, of course, is not helped by the fact that the Frank Millar movie about this masked vigilante tanked in the box offices (although I thought the movie was pretty decent, but I’ll digress).

This is a good costume, but it didn’t make the cut because of its overall simplicity; that and, well, we already went for the fedora and trench coat look with Rorschach. Now if only we could get a costume of the Question, then I’d be a really happy fangirl.

hon ironman 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Iron Man Super Deluxe Adult Costume: Those of you who know me at least semi-decently know that I am a huge fan of Iron Man. Iron Man was my comic of choice growing up, and my very first comic ever was an issue of Iron Man (that I still have and hold dear). So, why didn’t this Iron Man costume make it on the best list? It’s pretty cool looking, you’ve got to admit, but here’s the thing: when it comes right down to it, this costume is made of polyester. As much as a printed cloth version of an Iron Man costume can pull off the details of the Iron Man armor, it’s still material and it just doesn’t look completely right. Let’s face it; it’d take hundreds of dollars and a completely different set of materials to make an Iron Man costume that was really worth wearing.

hon wonderwoman 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Wonder Woman Deluxe Adult Costume: There were a few great female costumes that didn’t make it onto the list, and this was one of them. When it came down to it, I wanted to narrow it to just a few classics and give some newer and less seen options for the best Halloween costumes; so, I went with Super-Girl for my well-known costume and shelved Wonder Woman. That doesn’t mean this isn’t a good costume, however. On the contrary, it’s a fantastic costume. This is a timeless classic that’s comfortable to wear — and it’s oddly empowering to don a  Wonder Woman costume (yes I speak from experience). Also, for the more voluptuous ladies, this costume does have a plus size option.

hon spartan 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5300 Spartan Deluxe Adult Costume: This is, by far, my favorite comic book related Halloween costume. I love this classic comic by Frank Millar and, let’s face it, Gerard Butler made Leonidas very, very sexy. So, why didn’t it make it into the best list? Simply put, as awesome as I think this costume is, it’s impractical. There are very few geek guys out there that could pull this costume off. To be honest, you really need to be/look like a body builder to wear a costume like this; it’s not something that the plump guy or the scrawny guy with no muscle at all can really pull off. So, while the costume is awesome in theory, it loses points for impracticality.

And, last but not least…

EARTH’S TINIEST HEROES: Finally, we come to my favorite part (which is my favorite because of the sheer cute of it). Even geeks have kids, and what better way to ruin them — I mean start them on the path of geekery — than with comic book Halloween costumes? Here are some great toddler costumes!

kid wolvie 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Wolverine Muscle Toddler Costume: Tiny Wolverine may very well be the second most adorable thing you’ve ever seen. Look at those little fists of fury, those big foam muscles! Seriously, it’s like reading an issue of X-Babies without having to, you know, actually put up with Mojo and the X-Babies. This costume will definitely make your little man feel like a big superhero!
As I said, this is the second cutest costume you could possibly dress a toddler in. So, what’s the cutest? Well, it’s…

kid cap 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Captain America Infant/Toddler Costume: I feel that pretty much all of the adult Captain America costumes are pretty horrible looking. This, on the other hand, is adorable. It’s too adorable for words. Just look at him! Look how friggin’ cute he is! This little Cap doesn’t come with a shield, but does he really need one? I mean, who wouldn’t surrender immediately to such a cute little guy? This is, by far, the most adorable Halloween costume for a child of any age that I came across. And, of course, if your little tyke does want a shield, Marvel does sell child-sized Captain America shields for a reasonable price.

kid batgirl 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Batgirl Toddler Costume: Bad guys, beware! This costume has everything a girl needs for some quality trick or treating time in Gotham City! A one piece dress with an attached belt, a cape, boot toppers, gloves, and a mask to finish off the ensemble. This is a cute and fun costume for any little girl.
Some little girls want to be ballerina, some want to be a princess. But why settle for less when your little princess can be a defender of the night?

kid supergirl 300x300 Geek Chic: be a superhero for Halloween! Part 5Supergirl Toddler costume: Okay, I admit it: I like Supergirl. I mean, not really in the context of the comics because she can be a little bit on the annoying side — but I like the idea of Supergirl. I like her classy costume design and how cute said costume looks on a toddler. Once again it was a toss-up between Wonder Woman and Supergirl, but when it came down to it, I felt like Supergirl was a little bit more appropriate for a little girl of this age than the Wonder Woman costume. How can your little girl not feel super in such a cute costume?

And, once again, here we are at the end. I hope you’ve enjoyed me week-long guide to comic book related Halloween costumes. There are some really good ones out there as well as some pretty horrible ones, but now you have an idea of what sort of costumes are available to a comic book geek.

Here’s something else to consider, and this goes especially for the ladies: just because you can fit into a costume doesn’t mean you should. Be mindful of wearing a costume that is both comfortable and flattering on you. Large guys, stay away from that Spider-Man costume; voluptuous ladies, find an alternative to Emma Frost. It’s easy to look good or look sexy without showing off too much skin or shoving yourself into a costume that barely covers all of the vitally important areas. Remember, folks, Halloween is about having fun — and being comfortable is definitely a part of having fun!

So, until next time, I hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday. Don’t just stay chic, stay Geek Chic!
