BlackManta 300x274 The Man In Black: Johns Tweets About Next Project; Black Manta To Feature?

Geoff Johns recently tweeted that he is meeting up with editor Adam Schlagman to talk about the follow-up project to DC’s mega-comic crossover event Blackest Night, hinting that the project would involve DC supervillain Black Manta, one of Aquaman’s classic foes. Johns tweeted:

Out with Blackest Night editor Adam Schlagman in NYC. Talking our next project…we both love Black Manta.

Are there plans to return Aquaman into the DC fold to take on the threat of Black Manta, or is there a Black Manta mini-series in the works? In any case, a high-profile project involving two of DC’s top creative minds will result in a some great reading for comic book fans.

I’m looking forward to checking out the next project from Johns and Schlagman, even if it is one of DC’s B-list characters. I’ve never given Aquaman a fair shake, so this news gives me an excuse to familiarize myself with this enduring character. Sixty-plus years of fiction is no small feat. If the re-invention of Green Lantern is any indication of what to expect with the return of Aquaman, there will be great comic book reading in the near future.

Update: Johns tweeted:

Black Manta will join Captain Cold, Sinestro and Black Adam as one of the most kick ass villains in comics.
