Slumdog Prince: He-Man Collides with Bollywood
Follow the Bollywood adventures of everyone’s sword-wielding prince, and self-proclaimed Master of the Universe, He-Man . If you thought Michael Bay’s Transformers were a improper interpretation of an 80s cartoon, you’ll have to re-evaluate that theory after viewing this clip on YouTube. The clip features a female character (Teela?) singing and dancing around a stoic He-Man in rehearsed choreography to the sounds of Bollywood-style music, all under the ominous gaze of Skeletor, portrayed by a large statue with blinking eyes. There is also an appearance by Orko, minus any displays of magic, appropriately played by a midget. The whole musical number is split up by occasional shots of an audience member; a ’Bollywood musical-within-a-movie’. Kudos to anyone able to finish the whole six-minute affair. You’ll need the positive reinforcement after realizing the extent of your own masochism.
The whole video seems a little tongue-in-cheek, but then again I’ve never viewed Bollywood film. I didn’t even realize He-Man and the Masters of the Universe had worldwide appeal. But what’s not to love about a milquetoast prince who becomes a bad-ass after grabbing a sword and simply uttering the words “I have the power!’. It’s almost as if the televangelists are on to something: grab a sword, say those words, and you will have the power. I actually didn’t mind the soundtrack too much; Slumdog Millionaire (at least the trailers. Haven’t seen the movie. Yet.) can have that effect.
