Heroes Chapter 2, “Ink”

Welcome, It was nice to see another episode of Heroes go smoothly. Lets recap what has happened to each of the characters shall we?

Samuel:
Knowing he has got to leave the circus life for a little while, Samuel heads out into the city to try to recruit another so they can join his “family”. Not only is he looking for another person with powers to join the ranks but he is also on the look out for the compass that used to belong to his brother. Before he leaves he confessed to Lydia, the woman with tattoos covering her body, that he first found out about his powers when he could control the “earth below his feet” before sticking his hand within a jar of ink, only having it absorbed within his body.

Parkman:
After receiving the name of a drug dealer from an interrogation Matt Parkman performed on a man they had arrested in chapter 1, Parkman and his partner Lubbock, head out to bust the man they feel is a drug dealer. While waiting for the warrant to search the home, Matt is soon plagued by Sylar still demanding that he return him back to his body. Matt still refuses to help and feels that he could just ignore Sylar and go about his business. This proves to be more difficult when Sylar keeps popping up while Matt is trying to do his sweep of the home. When Lubbock goes upstairs Parkman confronts Sylar who tells him that the man they are looking for is actually in the closet beside him, holding a gun. This gives Matt a chance to dodge out of the way while the drug dealer fires his gun through the closet door. He is soon caught by Parkman and the two officers soon start going through his house looking for drugs. Since he is stuck in a boring house while Matt is looking around for the drugs Sylar decides to help him and directs him to a small pink teddy bear in the bathroom. Things start to look far worse then they really are and Parkman quickly asks the drug dealer about the whereabouts of a child. The man refuses to co-operate and says there is no child. Matt begins to get angry and is soon tempted to turn to Sylar who is now wishing to remain silent as well, trying to force Matt into using his powers on reading the drug dealers mind. Parkman refuses and continues to try to force Sylar to revel evidence about the missing child that Parkman isn’t able to see. Not getting anywhere with Sylar, Matt comes across a magazine with letters cut out of the pages and right under that a ransom note for the child’s return. Parkman gives up and digs into the drug dealers mind where he confesses that the child fell down the stairs. Matt finds a secret room where he stumbles upon the dead body of a little girl. This sets him off where he begins to seek justice while all out attacking the drug dealer. His partner soon pulls him away and wants to know what is happening. Matt tells him about the ransom note he found and the dead body in a secrete room. When Matt goes back there is; no note, no child, nothing. Sylar confesses that he used Parkman’s power against him, and if he doesn’t get his body back things will be far worse then they are now.

Peter:
You can’t help but see Peter as someone who is truly doing what he enjoys. Every time someone runs a news article about his latest act of bravery, he secretly displays it on a wall in his home, appreciating the idea that someone now will be given another chance to live. But things turn sour when he gets a summons delivered to his door about a man he had apparently saved but injured in the process. Wanting to know really what had happened and wanting to know who his personally suing him, Peter visits the hospital in which the man is currently residing and approaches an assistant behind a counter with head phones. Peter finds this really odd since the headphones aren’t plugged into anything and tries to make a joke saying “That is my favorite band”, but the woman doesn’t laugh. There he meets Samuel, who tells him that he was injured during the time he saved all those people from the bus accident. Peter doesn’t believe him, telling him he remembers everyone on board and that he doesn’t ever remember seeing him. Peter begins to look into the case finding out that Samuel was reported on being on that bus when Peter came by and saved all those people. Even Peter’s paramedic partner is questioning wither Peter isn’t actually guilty, revealing that every time they get a call, Peter is always want to be the first on the scene, blaming him of “glory hunting”. When Peter ventures home he takes a look at the picture that was taken shortly after the incident only to find the mysterious man standing up against the bus. What Peter doesn’t know is that just moments before he came home, Samuel had broken into his apartment and altered the picture with his magical ink abilities. Peter soon realizes he was wrong and soon hunts down the man to make an apology. When Peter find Samuel he offers his apology and they begin talking, Samuel and Peter soon have an understanding and the court case is dropped, but before Peter leaves Samuel shakes his hand secretly planting something under his skin.

Claire:
Ever since Gretchen happened to witness Claire’s jump from her dorm window, Gretchen hasn’t been able to leave Claire alone. Unable to know how to talk about this to her new friend, Claire decides the best thing she can do is try to avoid Gretchen at all costs. But it all goes to waist when Noah shows up to take her daughter out for lunch. Claire, feeling that she needs to get her self ready to go out, runs into Gretchen who follows her back to Claires dorm room where Noah is currently situated. With trying to be the nice father, Noah invites Gretchen out with them despite Claire’s frugal attempts to prevent Gretchen from agreeing. While enjoying some Thai food, Gretchen lets slip that she knows about Claire’s abilities. This doesn’t sit well with Noah, and asks Claire why she told her. Claire soon responds that she never said anything but instead she accidentally found out while she jumped out of the dorm room window to see if her roommate actually committed suicide. Fearing that this could leak Noah tells Claire that he must do something about it by calling in the Haitian to come and erase her memories. Claire fires back saying she wants to do this her way, no more will she let her father fight her battles. Still her father doesn’t like that but he agrees and soon returns the girls back to the dorm where Claire finally opens up about her powers while Gretchen opens up about her bulimic past. While the two girls share a moment with each other, Claire soon asks if Gretchen wouldn’t mind being her dorm roommate. Gretchen agrees.

Emma:
Emma lives all alone with her fellow cat and like the others that we all know and love, she too has a special ability. Emma has whats called Synesthesia an actual ability which allows her to see sound as color, the real interesting catch is that she is deaf. What she truly hates about being deaf is how people act around her when they find out that she can not hear, so while she goes about her day she wears headphone to make it look like she doesn’t have a problem. While working in the hospital she is approached by Peter to help find the mysterious person who is claiming he hurt him during the bus incident. Of course being deaf she cannot hear him and to Peter he feels she is ignoring him, until he notices shes listening to headphones with nothing plugged into them. This causes him to take notice of the girl, but not for long as he heads towards the room where Samuel is currently located. Emma later visits a doctor who tells her that she could have Synesthesia, a fusion of senses, where one see words when spoken or see’s colors when there is sound. After her shift, Emma decides to go to the park where she watches a man play a cello in the park. While she watches him play a wonderful light show begins to emanate from his strings and soon Emma is trapped by not the music but by what she can observe from it. After the man is done playing he quickly heads off to get himself something to eat while leaving the cello all alone. Being completely captivated by this new sensation, Emma picks up the cello and begins to play. Soon the instrument starts to produce even more colors than before becoming so bright and beautiful. Emma is transfixed in her abilities to produce such beauty, but she isn’t the only one who notices her talent. To her she is producing only light but to everyone else around her it is music, very spellbinding music, which even catches the ear of one in particular, that of Peter Petrelli.

Predictions:
After the first couple of episodes I can feel where the writers plan to be taking this show. So far I feel that Gretchen is no good, I believe that she pushed Amy out of the window to get closer to Claire. How she knew Claire was hiding something we won’t know till much later. With Matt being bothered by Sylar it is only fair to assume that he will have to go after Nathan so he can get Sylar back his body, before he destroys his life. Hiro will try to change the past to make things right, similar to that of the premise behind Quantum Leap, the problem with this is each time he changes something from the past something from the present also changes and soon it won’t be for the best anymore and he’ll have to re-fix what he just did to try to make things as they were. The problem with Hiro is that he’s dying and that doing to many of these jumps will kill him.

See ya next week.
