Heroes: Volume 5: Redemption: Chapter 10, Thanksgiving
Hiro/Samuel
Nothing matters more to Samuel then the film that he now holds in his hands. Finding a projector Samuel puts on a film and begins to watch his birth and the real truth behind his powers. While watching Samuel get interrupted by Hiro feeling that he has lived up to his agreement. Samuel starts to ignore Hiro’s whining about”Where’s Charlie”and Hiro is not very happy because of this but he knows that he has to play the rules to get her back.
While setting plates for the Thanksgiving family dinner he is approached by Lydia who is able to see that there’s something bothering Hiro. She tries to get him to open up about whats bothering him and he responds by saying “Samuel is a bad man” then get goes into saying he fixed the past but Samuel isn’t living up to his end of the bargain by telling him where Charlie is. Hiro storms off in anger and Edgar walks up to Lydia after over hearing what Hiro said about “Fixing the past” .A single thought crosses both their minds, if he fixed the path where’s Joseph?
Lydia wants to know more and soon hunts down Hiro for answers and soon finds him all by himself. She walks up to him and tries to dig into what Hiro ment by saying he “fixed the past” for Samuel. Fearing that this is a trick Hiro refuses to say anymore on the subject fearing that Samuel might be around and if Samuel got mad then Hiro’s chances to get Charlie back will be Nil. Lydia tries to befriend Hiro telling him that she can help him with her powers, but in doing so they need to have physical contact. Hiro take offence to her offer fearing that the physical contact she is talking about is more then just touching, letting her know his heart is for Charlie. Lydia apologises for him taking it incorrectly but for her to know what he knows there has to be some kind of physical contact made. Hiro accepts this and Lydia gets him just to touch her back. To Lydia when contact is made she is able to read the other person’s thoughts and feelings. She pokes around in Hiro’s head only to find out that he has no idea who Joseph was. Since Hiro had no answers for her in his mind, she tells him to take her back, to take her back eight weeks where a man from the government came by and killed Joseph.
-8 weeks in the past-
Lydia and Hiro jump back just in time to see Dr. Suresh walk out of the trailer with Joseph. Samuel walks up to his brother telling him that he wasn’t able to finish his chores. With that Joseph and Samuel walk off and Hiro and Lydia follow. The walk into a field where they are able to watch the conversation between Samuel and his brother. Samuel tells Joseph all that he heard during the conversation between him and Dr. Suresh. Samuel also wonders why his own brother has been lying to him all this time. Joseph tells Samuel that he is not only powerful but also dangerous and that if he ever learned how to improve his powers that he would be able to cause earthquakes, level mountains even ruin cities. All this goes to Samuel’s head and demands how this can be done. Joseph tell him that he told Suresh to burn that film and that a man from the government is coming. Samuel doesn’t like this one bit and in anger launches a rock into his brother killing him.
knowing that Joseph was killed by his own brother, Lydia tells Hiro to take them back so she can tell all she can about the real history about what happened to Joseph, but this seems to be a problem with Hiro because he can’t get himself and her to jump back to their own time. Samuel hears movement far off and begins to investigate. Hiro knows that if Samuel finds them that they would both be in trouble but no matter what Hiro does he just isn’t able to get back into his time. Just as Samuel makes it to where the two should be, Hiro finally gets it right and is gone just before Samuel shows up.
-present-
Hiro and Lydia make it back just before supper starts and Lydia tells Edgar where she just was and what Hiro and her saw. Soon supper is ready and they all sit around the table in their spots. The only person not seated is Samuel who is walking around the giant table talking about how this is the new beginning but before they start this new beginning they must flush out a traitor that sits in their mist. Without fear Edgar speaks up and lets everyone at the table know that Samuel is right, it is he who had killed his brother and this was witnessed by Hiro. Samuel asks Hiro if this is true, did he really see him kill his own brother. Hiro knows that if he goes against Samuel that he would never get to see Charlie so he apologises to Edgar by denying seeing anything of the sort. This allows Samuel to put the blame not on him but direct it to Edgar and single him out as the traitor and the one that actually killed Joseph. Edgar stands his ground defending what he knows without knowledge that Samuel has quietly brought up a rock off of the ground behind Edgar. Hiro is witnessing what is happening and knows that he would feel extremely bad if Edgar did get hurt to he touches him and freezes time. Edgar is taken off guard by what Hiro had done. Knowing that Edgar has it out for Samuel, Hiro tells Edgar to hold off, to wait until he gives up information on where Charlie is, them he can come back and have his revenge. Edgar agrees with Hiro and runs away. Feeling that he has done good, Hiro reverts back time. Samuel notices that Edgar is no longer amung them and tells the rest of the family at the table that the reason he left was because he was guilty.
Later on after the supper, Hiro walks by Samuel as he is sitting just outside his trailer. He tells Hiro that he knows that he saved Edgar and that is is very unwise if he thinks to betray him with Charlie being on the line. Hiro stands up for himself saying that he knows how powerful Samuel is but he is just as powerful and that the only reason that he isn’t told where Charlie is, is because Samuel still needs him. Feeling that he has the upper hand, Hiro soon makes a demand, a very bold one stating that if he isn’t told when and where Charlie is that he is going to walk off leaving Samuel in a bind. Samuel is never without his backup plan and lets Hiro know that he can never leave. With that one of his goons sneaks up to Hiro and wraps his hands around his head. This causes Hiro’s brain to get all messed up, speaking gibberish Hiro disappears leaving Samuel in a complete loss on what has happened.
Nathan/Peter
Giving into Peter’s demand to help, the brothers fly to Peter’s apartment where Nathan decides ot take a nap. While watching over his brother Peter gets the door after someone comes knocking. The person in question is the brothers mother Angela who has brought a crew with her to deliver a Thanksgiving feast for them all to enjoy. Not wanting to waist any time Peter directly asks his mother why Nathans’ body placed in a freezer and locked away in a storage facility. Angela tells him that it was a shape shifter that took the form of Nathan and that they shouldn’t worry because he’s dead. Wanting the truth from his mother Peter lets her know that they also came across Matt Parkman who told them that it is really Nathan. Angela rebutts the question saying that Parkman is currently mentally unstable. Knowing that his mother is not telling him the truth he forcefully asks "is that really Nathan’s body". Before she even has a time to respond she is greeted by Nathan who wishes to know the real answer. Angela wishes not to tell them really what happened and forces them to sit down to have a traditional family Thanksgiving in peace. The brothers do sit down and do enjoy the food but there’s no escape from the inevitable and again the harass her with the same question to the point where Angela breaks. She finally comes out and explains what had happened. While Sylar was on a rampage making his way to kill the president, Angela had a vision that the two brothers would stop Sylar in a battle to save the president but Nathan’s life would be on the line and the only person to save him was Matt Parkman. But by the time she got Matt and found Nathan, he was already killed by Sylar. Angela had an idea to finally put an end to Sylar once and for all. She convinced Matt to take the memories of Nathan and transplant them into the incapacitated body of Sylar. But in-turn the memories of Sylar went into Matt. After Angela gave them the answer they were so determined to get, she invites them to have some pie. Nathan can tell that something is not right about the way his mother is looking at him and feels that she doesn’t really see her son any more but instead she actually sees her son’s killer Sylar. She tells him not to act silly. At the same time Nathan also notices the same look from Peter and asks him what he sees when he looks at him? Peter responds by telling him he sees his brother. Nathan responds by telling Peter he is wrong, because he is no longer Nathan. Angela finally begins to realise that this is the day she feared the most, the idea of Sylar coming back. Unsure of what to do, feeling trapped Peter and his mother get up and slowly back away into a corner while Nathan stares them down. Nathan soon begins a change, his body starts to become electrified as Sylar’s shape-shifting powers start to kick in and the face that once showed Nathan is no more, instead it now shows the rightful face of it’s true owner that of Sylar. Since there is a big ol’ pumpkin pie sitting in front of him, Sylar forces both Peter and Angela to sit down and join him. Sylar finishes the entire pie himself feeling that he hasn’t eaten in years while Peter and Angela watch, and now that Sylar got himself something to eat he’s ready to finally set out to finish what he started by killing Angela and Peter. But something stops him, something inside pulls his had away from trying to remove the top of Angelas’ head. It’s Nathan and he’s trying to take control again over Sylars body. Nathan gains a victory and transforms Sylars body back into his. Knowing that if he stays any longer around his family he would put them in even more danger then they are already in. Doing what Nathan does best he runs out of the apartment and takes flight.
Peter approaches his mother, trying to comfort her in her time of need by telling her that he’s gonna go out and get Nathan back. Angela has finally gave in to the idea that all is lost and tells Peter there’s nothing that he can do. He tells her that since all this happened he feels that anything is possible.
Claire/Noah
Noah is shopping for food so he can host his first Thanksgiving dinner at his new place. While shopping around he gives Claire a call to make sure that she is able to make it. Claire tells him that she is and wonders who else is showing up. Noah replies that the only person not showing up would be her brother, he is unable to get away to join them. While continuing the shop for items Noah bumps into an ex-coworker, more specifically an old ex-partner that use to work with him at Primatech. Remembering a time when they got real close to the point of Noah almost cheating on his wife, Noah strikes a conversation with her. He asks if she would like to join him and his family for a Thanksgiving dinner he is hosting, she agrees.
Out of all the family that is suppose to show up, Claire is the first and is surprised on how clean her fathers apartment is. Feeling that they are all alone Claire tells him that there’s something that she has to tell him. To Claire’s surprise they are not and soon is introduced to an ex-coworker of her fathers, Lauren, who has decided to come over for dinner and help him get everything prepared. Claire is shocked that he brought a date to the dinner without telling anyone, he tells her that she isn’t a date, just a friend. Claire remembers what she wanted to tell him but again is thwarted in her attempts when her mother and her mothers new boyfriend, Doug come through the door.
Once everyone is seated Noah makes a toast to the Thanksgiving day dinner and for everyone who decided to come. While at the table Noah’s ex asks Noah on how he and Lauren met. Lauren jumps to fill in the answer by saying that they use to work at Primatech together. Being suspicious and even quite a bit jealous the ex asks in a very sarcastic way if it was Primatech or “the other thing” Lauren is surprised that Noah’s ex knows anything about his real job and what they use to do, but responds “the other thing” To calm the air between the two Doug tells everyone of a family tradition of his and feels that they should all participate. Starting at Doug and going around the table each person tells what they are thankful for, except for Claire. Being caught up with the "cold war" between the ex and the date, no one seemed to notice that there seems to be something wrong with Claire. Claire tells them that she wants to drop out of school, that she feels this isn’t for her. Noah is up in arms and wonders if this little outburst is caused by Gretchen leaving. Claire says that it’s not only Gretchen but there is a lot more to it. Claire feels that she would never fit in anywhere, and that college is just a mistake. As an argument starts to erupt Doug again tries to be the hero and jumps into the fight by explaining on how he knows how Claire feels. Claire knows Doug has no idea what she is going through so she decides to show up. Claire picks up a fairly large knife and stabs it into her arm cutting down. Doug sits in shock as he witnesses such a horrific sight, but soon faints at the sight of Claire actually healing from it.
Noah’s ex tried to nurse Doug back awake but while he still is passed out Lauren decides to make amends and patch things up. While the two women are talking it up Noah takes Claire to the side and begins to talk to her about her dropping out of school. He knows that she has been thinking about going after Samuel, to the place where everyone like her leads a normal life. He knows that it’s hard for Claire to try to live what she calls a “normal” life but he wants her to reconsider knowing that there’s something sinister about Samuel and shows her the compass that he collected from the confrontation in her dorm room. As soon as Noah finishes the two hear a mysterious knock at the door. Noah goes to answer it and standing on the other side is Gretchen.
Gretchen soon joins the rest for Thanksgiving dinner and tells Claire how boring it is at her new school. Out of instinct Claire tells Gretchen that if she wishes that the other side of the dorm room is currently un-occupied.
While Claire and Gretchen are talking, Noah and Lauren decide that they need to take things a little bit slower and actually start by going on a date.
The time soon gets late and it is time for Claire and Gretchen to head off. Noah gives a few last words of advice by telling her that she has other options in life. Claire hugs her father and the two girls take off. While in the car, Clarie shows Gretchen what she took from her father when she hugged him. It’s the compass that her father was acquiring about when he came in contact with Samuel. Gretchen asks what she’s going to do with it, Claire responds by quoting her father about “having options” and if that’s the case she need to find out what they are. Gretchen starts the car and the two girls start to drive in the direction where the compass is pointing.
