It was no big surprise that Hollywood loves to do re-boots, and like every other horror classic out there A Nightmare on Elm St. is no different.  Earlier on in the year we were introduced to who would be playing the lead roll of Freddy Kruger and that dunious distinction went to none other than Jackie Earle Haley who played Rorschach from the movie Watchmen. Sure he played a weirdo with an appetite for maiming or even killing the criminals we went after. But was he the right choice for the roll? How could you replace Robert Englund as the iconic Freddy?

When they announced that it was going to be Jackie Earle Haley I looked at some of his pictures on the net to try to see how he would look like with his face all burnt up. I couldn’t find any reason that he couldn’t play him. So as the movie was being filmed, I had to sit on my ass until we finally got a good look at Freddy’s face. The one thing I loved about the original Freddy from the first film A Nightmare on Elm St. was that he looked disturbing, frighting and grotesque and that was only IF you got a good glimpse at him, do to the very low lighting that they used to give the movie a far greater mysterious and fearful feel. As soon as I saw the new Freddy I could already feel that this was going to be a mistake. Sure he looks like a burn victim, but he doesn’t look scary, he actually looks more like some kind of alien.

I think, with all the movies that have received a re-boot over the year, this one really didn’t need it at all.
