That’s right folks Geordi and Worf are together again, of course they’re not reprising their Star Trek roles, but they are staring in a comic movie. Ok, so it’s an animated comic movie that’s going direct to DVD, but it’s still everybody’s favorite blind engineer back in the saddle with the koolest klingon in Starfleet. In case you were wondering the movie in question is Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, and while it would be cool if Burton and Dorn were playing Superman and Batman, the truth is that they’ll be playing Black Lightning and Black Manta.
When asked about the importance of science fiction and specifically comic books to society Burton had this to say:
When I was a kid, it was comic books that pointed me in that direction and from comic books I went to science fiction literature, which is still one of my most favorite genres of literature to read. Don’t underestimate the power of comics and what they represent for us and how they inform us on the journey of being human – because it’s powerful. It’s very powerful. They give us permission to contemplate what’s possible. And in this world, in this universe, there’s nothing that is not possible. If you can dream it, you can do it.
That’s why I love LeVar Burton, he’s never ashamed of his nerd roots, and he makes it ok for the rest of us give into our geeky impulses. If it’s cool enough for the guy from Reading Rainbow, it sure as hell is cool enough for me.
