PC Left 4 Dead Update Will Feature SDK; Hopeful PS3 Owners SOL With L4D2
Some news on Valve’s fan-favorite zombie shooter: the PC version of the game will receive an update this week that will include tools for dedicated players to create custom levels via authoring tools/sdk. As always this is a free update that will hopefully silent the unnecessary criticisms about the Left 4 Dead sequel (too soon, not enough extra content support), aptly named Left 4 Dead 2, to be released later this year. With the new tools, anyone with the proper motivation (that would be an effort beyond a cheeto-stained click of the mouse in an online petition) can create their own personal zombie apocalypse. Getting the custom levels into the game, along with posters, models and textures, will be managed by a single .VPK file. Sharing the level couldn’t be more simple: create a lobby and invite a player into a campaign. The player will be prompted to download the new content. This is great news for players eager to breathe new life into an already great game. On the console front, a PS3 release of Left 4 Dead 2 appeared on EA’s site, appearing to reverse the non-PS3 release stand taken by developer Valve following a less-than-stellar PS3 Orange Box release. Of course, shortly after the initial listing appeared, it was quickly dropped from the listing. PS3 owners eager to play the Valve shooter will just have to bite the bullet with either the Xbox 360 or PC releases.
