blood last vampire live action 300x168 Crimson Viper: Live Action Blood Opens In Select US cities

Starting this Friday the live-action adaptation of modern Japanese animation classic Blood: The Last Vampire opens this week with a limited release. The movie will be shown in 20 theatres across America. The live-action movie Blood: The Last Vampire tells the story of Saya, a  Japanese schoolgirl recruited by a mysterious organization only known as ‘The Council’ to hunt down full-blooded vampires. The film features some heavy-hitting talent, with producer Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero), director Ronny Yu (Freddy Vs. Jason, Bride of Chucky), and Korean actress Gianna Jun aka Jun Ji-hyun, known for her roles in Korean films My Sassy Girl and Il Mare. American audiences won’t need to worry about reading subtitles during the film; the film is filmed in English. The trailer features some intense fight scenes and enough blood for the average horror fan.

I’m looking forward to checking this one out in the theatres, if the film actually does get a wide release. A few years have passed since I first watched the animated ‘Blood’, but after watching the trailer for the live-action film adaptation, I’m inclined to revisit the animated movie. I can’t compare this live-action adaptation to the recent Dragon Ball Evolution release, but the ‘Blood’ source material has easily adapted to the silver screen. Also, watching Jun Ji-kyun fight vampires in a Japanese schoolgirl outfit is worth the price of admission.
