Oy vey, there’s no rest for a weary geek girl this week when it comes to comics! Usually, it’s pretty easy for me to pick my top five comics for the week, the ones on my pull list that I’m most excited about. If I can’t pick just five, sure, I can throw in a bonus, but not this week! This week is so chock full of amazing and awesome comics that it was almost impossible for me to narrow it down to my top five. After much consideration for all of the wonderful comics coming out this week, I’ve narrowed the Quick Pick list down to five must-have comics for this week:
1. Blackest Night #3 – This is the comic that continues to draw me in and slowly convert me from a Marvel admirer to a DC follower. I’m hoping we’ve finally gotten past the, “everyone and their brother who is dead: RISE!” bit (which, as much as I love this concept, is starting to get a bit monotonous) and on to the good stuff. What is the good stuff? I’m not sure yet, but with the way this comic is going, I can only imagine that the meaty part is yet to come and that we’re about to see the you-know-what hit the fan.
2. Ghostbusters: Displaced Aggression #1 - Usually when it comes to stories about time travel, I draw the line at anything past Back to the Future and Back to the Future II (I’m looking at you, Back to the Future III) or Star Trek IV. However, in the case of this new Ghostbusters story from Scott Lobdell, I’m willing ot make an exception. Gozer’s father, Kozar’Rai, has defeated the Ghostbusters and scattered them across time. It’s up to Venkman to save the day, but how will he manage to get the job done while stuck in 1886?
3. Star Trek: Romulans: Schism #1 – I just referenced a movie about Kirk and Spock saving the whales and you’re surprised that IDW Publishing’s newest Star Trek comic is on my list for this week? Of course you aren’t. After his fantastic two-part comic, Alien Spotlight: Romulans, I’m excited to see what John Byrne has in store for us with this new Romulan-related story. Set in the classic-Trek era, the Klingons have found a new weapon to unleash on the Federation: the Romulans! But the Klingon Emperor is beginning to become impatient with the slow pace of the Federation-Romulan war. He probably underestimates those crafty Romulans, too; I’ll bet you ten strips of gold-pressed latinum that they’re on to those crazy Klingons’ scheme.
4. Ultimate Comics Armor Wars #1 – If you read my review of Ultimate Avengers #2 this past week, then you know that nothing has me more excited about Marvel comics lately than Mark Millar’s return to the Ultimates — that is, except for a story about Ultimate!Iron Man written by my all-time favorite comic book author, Warren Ellis. Rehashing classic Iron Man stories (Armor Wars in particular) seems to be a popular thing at the moment, but I can’t complain; it gives me more opportunities to read about my favorite superhero. And, well, come on! It’s Warren Ellis. This is the man that told Twitter, “They don’t let me write important Marvel comics after the time I said IRON MAN should be about the adventures of a man in an iron lung.” I have nothing but great hopes for this comic.
5. War Machine #9 – If you look up the word “awesome” in the dictionary (they still make those, despite the internet), you’ll likely see a picture of Grek Pak next to the definition. I’m still not sure why Rhodey has to be a cyborg-man, but other than that, I’m absolutely loving this comic. It’s about time Marvel gave War Machine his own comic book again. Plus, there’s a good bit of Bethany Cabe in this comic, which I can’t complain about at all; Beth is one of my all-time favorite supporting female characters. Morgan Stark has merged himself with Ultimo, and it looks like things are about to get really ugly. Of course, I’m sure Norman Osborn doesn’t mind anything that causes Jim Rhodes any grief. Pretty excited about seeing the next chapter in this fantastic story!
So, it’s a great week for comics. Everything from the big name comics to the up-and-comers have put their A-game out there for this week. There’s bound to be something for everyone this week, and if there isn’t, that’s the joy of comics: there’s always next week!

Amazing Spider-Man Presents: Anti-Venom #1

Hello,
Everything dynamic and very positively! :)
Fact: Back to the Future III is a better movie than Back to the Future II. I checked with Zemeckis. Note: might not have actually happened.
