sep090440 197x300 Marrons Comic Quick PickEvery once in a while, a girl’s got to go back to her roots. Oh, sure, I’m gung-ho over Blackest Night and I always have at least one or two indie comics or comics from smaller publishing companies every week, but once upon a time, I was a one comic company kind of gal. Every once in a while, there comes a time when I have to say, “Make mine Marvel!” Today is that day, and the week is this week! So, let’s see what Marvel is bringing a happy geek girl this week.

1. Iron Man Armor Wars #4 – The Armor Wars are coming to an end as Tony Stark finally faces the enemy behind the theft of all of his armor. There’s only one problem; can the creator of every single Iron Man armor fight them all — at the same time? I’ve really enjoyed this re-imagining of the Armor Wars and am looking forward to seeing the conclusion.

2. Marvelous Land Of Oz #1 – I absolutely LOVED Marvel’s rendition of Frank L Baum’s Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how they handle the next book in the series! It looks like it’ll be a lot of fun!

3. Black Widow Deadly Origin #1 – Natalia Romanova has been many things, from a spy to an Avenger, and was even Iron Man’s girlfriend for a while. Now something or someone from the Black Widow’s past is threatening to harm those she loves — and with a past like hers, that could be just about anyone! With Wolverine and Winter Soldier along for the ride, this should be a high-octane, action-packed adventure!

4. Astonishing X-Men #32 – Sentinels? No problem! The X-Men know a thing or three about Sentinels. Only… Well, this Sentinel is different. Really different. In fact, it’s made of flesh and bone — and wearing the skin of a deceased teammate! How will the X-Men defeat this monstrocity, and what does it have to do with the Brood?

5. Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #4 - Brian Michael Bendis, assassin of the Marvel-U, is the bane of my existence. I dislike almost everything he does, but I love Ultimate Spider-Man. Go figure. The art in this comic is atrocious, but the story is what one would expect of Bendis writing Ultimate Spidey: fun, adventure, and plenty of Pete’s signature sense of humor. Spidey vs Mysterio is sure to be a web-slinging blast! Plus, what’s going on with Kitty Pryde?

That’s it this week. Not into Marvel? Don’t worry, there’s something out there for everyone — and if not, there’s always next week!

I can’t believe Sky Pirates of Neo Terra didn’t make your short list.  I loved the first one.  I’m totally stoked for Marvelous Land of Oz too, it’s important to read some comics that aren’t about superheroes on occasion.

  2. Mike Leach says:

Terry picked up the first one because he thought it was Butt Pirates of Neo Terra.

  3. Allan B. says:

Always wanted to check out Astonishing X-Men. Might have to search for the first trade.
