It’s another glorious week for comics. Not to mention that, for those of us in the United States, it’s also getting very close to celebrating Eating Way Too Much And Then Passing Out While Watching Football Day, also known to some as Thanksgiving. After the turkey’s been digested and you’ve slept through all of the football, there will be plenty of time over the course of the four-day weekend to do what we love to do best: read comics! So, let’s take a look at what’s coming out this week.
1. Blackest Night #5 - Finally! Finally the Green Lantern ring is coming out! Okay, okay. I’m excited about the comic itself, too, but I’ve been waiting for the green ring for what feels like ages! It’s finally time to find out what the heck is going on as Nekron, Lord of the Undead, reveals himself and finally lets our heroes in on why he’s causing the dead to rise. Losing to this guy is not an option when the dead are rising to serve him!
2. Invincible Iron Man #20 - I hated “World’s Most Wanted”, absolutely loathed it. Taking of bits of the movie and integrating them into the comic using Pepper Potts was the least-spectacular, least-ingenious thing I’ve ever seen in my life. The end of this last arc, #19, was absolutely anti-climactic and such a disappointment. However; I know that Matt Fraction is capable of good writing, so let’s see if he can spare some of that good writing for Tony Stark. I mean, come on, Fraction. Why do you do all the good story telling with the X-Men and leave your B-game for Iron Man? Let’s clean up this mess, please.
3. Star Trek: Nero #4 – The series that shows us the back-story of Nero and the events leading up to the reboot J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie finally comes to an end. There should be plenty of action as Nero and Spock finally come face to face and Nero gives Spock a “gift” that the elder man will never forget: the destruction of Vulcan! The story and the art for this have both been amazing so far, and I’m looking forward to the conclusion!
4. Superman Secret Origin #3 – This is another great mini-series that I’m thoroughly enjoying. It’s a fresh take on the origins of Clark Kent/Superman, as written by Geoff Johns. I can’t tell you how much I love the art style. It’s so befitting of Superman, and everyone has dimples! It’s great! The story continues here as Clark Kent begins his life as a reporter for The Daily Planet and Superman takes to the skies. Why does Metropolis mean so much to Superman? We’re soon to find out!
5. Ultimate Comics Avengers #4 – I’m pretty excited to see the new, somewhat-suspicious team that Nick Fury has put together take on Captain America. In the streets of Paris, no less! And here I thought Steve hated the French! Mark Millar has been giving us a pretty damn interesting story thus far, with fantastic artwork by Carlos Pacheco. There’s only one thing to do in this situation: hold on tight, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride!
Well, I think that about sums it up for this week! There are a lot of exciting new comics coming out, and some great stories to be told. This list is, of course, my top picks; there may be other things out there that grab your attention more. Whether you’re a fan of superheroes, zombies, detectives, or anything in between, there’s something out there this week for everyone; and if not, then there’s always next week!
