shangchi 197x300 Marrons Comic Quick PickDozens of comics come out each week, so many that sometimes it’s hard to decide: what’s worth picking up? What should I read this week? Should I try something new, or stick to what I know best? As a geek girl, I find myself asking these questions every week as I approach every Wednesday with thinly-veiled anticipation.

So, what is worth reading this week? The answer: a lot of things — but here are my top five choices for this week’s pull list:

1. Iron Man: Armor Wars #2
– A retelling of sorts of the classic Armor Wars story, the first issue of Iron Man: Armor Wars was a befitting tribute to the idea of the classic story but with a few fresh and updated ideas. When last we left Tony Stark, he was face to face with none other than Dr. Doom. What does a billionaire industrialist do when someone’s stolen all of his Iron Man armors? Why, he uses a set of Dr. Doom’s old armor to beat up all of those Iron Imposters, of course! I’m really digging the art and the story in this story, and I hope that it only gets better!

2. Doctor Who Ongoing #3 – The Doctor is on trial by the Shadow Proclamation, and his life hangs in the balance! The Doctor must prove his innocence, but it might be a little more tricky than oen would think; after all, the prosecution is Mister Finch! I really enjoyed the first two issues of the new ongoing Doctor Who series, and I’m definitely looking forward to this third installment, whichis the first chapter of a four-part story arc. There’s a new artist as well, which gives me a lot of hope that this will be even better than the first two issues.

3. Supergirl Annual #1 – Supergirl has taken to hiding in plain sight, using the secret identity of Linda Lang to land a job at the Daily Planet. It’ll be interesting to see how Kara will deal with her “real” life as an ordinary person — and if she can keep her true identity secret. Plus, there’s a bonus origins story that shows us how Lucy Lane became the newest Superwoman.

4. Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu – As if it wasn’t awesome enough that Shang-Chi — the Master of Kung-Fu — gets his own special one shot black and white comic, he gets to face down none other than Deadpool… in a Kung-Fu motorcycle race! Everyone will be kung-fu fighting, and I’m sure those cats will be fast as lighting. This just looks like it’s going to be a fun, action-packed adventure — and, hey, you can’t go wrong with Deadpool along for the ride!

5. Batman: Gotham After Midnight TPB – This is one of the best Batman-related stories I’ve had the pleasure of reading, and I don’t say that lightly! I’ve always been a fan of horror and macabre, and those are the two words that most perfectly describe this trade. Grave robbers, night terrors, monsters, and a new threat known only as Midnight make for an amazing set of interwoven stories. This trade collects all twelve issues of Batman: Gothan After Midnight and is a definite must-have for any Batman fan.

Whether you’re a fan of the Big Two or the more obscure publishing companies, there are a lot great titles coming out this week! It’s hard to pick just five favorites for this week, but that’s the glory of comics: there’s always next week, too!
