If the Peace Walker trailer wasn’t enough to satisfy the geek quotient on the PSP at this years gamescon in Cologne, Germany, Marvel announced the upcoming arrival of digital comics on the PSP. The new service will be available this December through the Playstation Store, and will feature a selection of classic and selected digital first comics from the House of Ideas (not quite as awesome as the Hilarious House of Frightenstein). The service is set to offer back issues of Marvel’s heavy hitters, including Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and everyone favorite team of mutants, the X-Men, along with an assortment of graphic novels and underground titles, with monthly content updates. No word yet on the availability of Marvel Divas on the service.

The availability of a Marvel comics download service on the PSP almost seems like a trial run for a similar service on iTunes. With the success of recent iPhone comic book apps, it might only be a matter of time before Spidey web-slings his way on Apple’s iconic touch-screen phone. I’m looking forward to trying out the Marvel digital comic book service on my PSP; the Marvel digital comic book service (will someone pick a name for the service) will double my PSP usage, past a strict diet of portable Burnout. Now I can catch up on the last 60 years of Hulk, and possibly make sense of Hulk 600.
