Spoiler alert for those who haven’t read a comic book since September 2007, but Sabretooth is dead in Marvel canon. He was decapitated by Wolverine and his magical Highlander sword and has yet to come back from the dead (again).
I’m a big Sabretooth fan, as evidenced by my email address that I chose back in junior high and still use to this day, mostly because I’m lazy and uncreative. However over the last decade I’ve become super pissed off with Marvel and the crazy shit they’ve done in the past like Tyler Mane, the Wolverine lobotomy that reduced his mentality to that of a child, the weird half-man half-animal people from an Earth X alter-reality, and now this.
Now I understand that it’s a comic book and you have to keep readers interested, but have you ever sat down and actually read the comic history of some of your favourite super human? It’s as though the editors gave free reign to the retarded kid. Seriously.
As far as the movies are concerned, Sabretooth just hasn’t translated well into live action just as Halle Berry’s accent for Storm disappeared half way through the first movie. Out with the wrestler and grunt Sabretooth, in with the guy whose acting range is that of a pancake.
Now Marvel has decided to release th one shot X-Men Origins: Sabretooth to give new Sabretooth fans something accessible to spend their money on. It’s a 30-page, condensed read that rehashes boring history that old fans are already familiar with, and if you’re like me, tired of.
Check out this clip from Comic Books and their review of Sabretooth’s origins one shot, it’s the last comic they review.
I’d love to hear from other Sabretooth fans out there and their thoughts on the crap we’ve had to put up with for the last few years.

Don’t get me started. I actually quit buying, reading, looking-in-the-general-vicinity-of Wolverine comics, when they killed my favorite character, appearantly intending to keep him dead. Actually I don’t believe they ever really got him “just right.” In the Ultimate Alliance game, he was decent, but lacked the healing factor, in the X-Men movie it’s had to say how he would have turned out, since he wasn’t really shown all that much. Actually I think that Mystique and Magneto were the only villians who got decent screen time. And in the comics they could never keep correct continuity. IE: He’s a big dumb brute, no he’s a calculating killer, no he’s a brain-washed animal, He killed Silver Fox, no she survived, and joined Hydra, no she didn’t, he has adamantium, no he doesn’t, yes he does, but not on his joints….awwwwhat’s the use?
When they bring Sabretooth back, maybe I’ll give Wolverine another shot. Romulus can bite me.
