sega genesis michael jackson moonwalker Smooth Criminals: MJ Moonwalker Catridges Flood EbayIf you’re staring at your Sega Genesis game collection, and are questioning whether or not to sell that cartridge of Mooonwalker on everyone’s favorite internet yard sale EBay, here’s a tip: don’t bother. The vultures have already swooped in on the aftermarket cartridges, drawing bids of close to $50.00 US, with many sellers overestimating cost and demand for the title, pricing some at almost $2000.00. The game was an adaptation of the Moonwalker film, and featured MJ in a white suit dancing his way through levels and rescuing children from Mr. Big. MJ’s music was featured in the game, with Beat It and Smooth Criminal converted into full 16-bit sound. Moonwalker didn’t meet expectations, but it remained one of most memorable early titles for the Sega Genesis. As an avid gamer, Jackson appeared in other game titles from the series Space Channel 5 and Ready to Rumble.

It just seems self-serving and opportunistic to use the recent death of Michael Jackson as a launch-pad for a lucrative EBay career. Most of all, it’s important that everyone remember MJ as a talented musician and entertainer, and not the lead character in a lackluster first-gen Sega Genesis game. MJ should be remembered in the history books for his music career, his music videos, and his exhaustive touring schedule, not the second-rate licensed game that was released in the early 90s. If have any doubt, just hit play on ‘Man in the Mirror. Then you’ll l understand.

  1. When was this exactly?

  2. It was an early Genesis game, so I would put it at around 1993-1994.  It was a pretty good game too.
