Word comes our way from Hollywood Reporter that Dreamworks and Michael Bay have decided what their next project together will be. Here’s the thing though, it’s not a third Transformers movie. Early Friday Dreamworks pre-emptivly purchased the rights to the unpublished science fiction novel “I am Number Four” the first of a 6 volume series about 9 teenage aliens who come to earth after the destruction of their planet. While getting used to being earth teenagers the aliens discover that the evil mofo who destroyed their planet has followed them to earth. I’ve always felt that a Saved By the Bell meets Independence Day story would be a huge hit so count me amongst the millions who can’t wait for the book or Michael Bay’s adaptation of it to drop into our laps.
Apparently the author of the novel is being kept a secret. Rumor is though that infamous writer/con man James Frey, author of A Million Little Pieces is the mastermind behind the pen. In case you can’t remember Frey he was the guy who the smoking gun.com exposed as a fraud after the book he published under the guise of a non-fictional memoir turned out to be bullshit. Oprah loved the book, and her exposure of what she thought was a true story to her fans made it one of the best selling books of that year. After the validity of the book was called into question Oprah tricked Frey and his publisher into coming on the show and blasted him on the air. It remains the only full episode of Oprah I’ve ever watched, and to this day I’m still to scared of her to agree to appear on her show. Interestingly I’ve always said that anybody who could suck in Oprah that bad must come to us from beyond the heavens. So maybe this is the autobiography Frey meant to give us when he wrote what he said were his memoirs in 2003.
