Andrea The Girl Gamer On April - 27 - 2009

If you’re me, this would be your list of top 5 most anticipated DS releases this summer.

When waiting in line at the bank:

Puchi Puchi VirusPuchi Puchi Virus
Release date: 12 May 2009
Publisher: NIS
Developer: Kids Factory
Genre: Puzzle
Other systems: DS exclusive

Puzzle games have found a place in my DS repertoire of games because I can play them in the spare minutes of a day while waiting for one thing or another. They can be started with very little preamble or opening credits and turned off without bothering to save the game if you choose.

Puchi Puchi Virus is set on a planet similar to Earth where a horrible viral outbreak has occurred, turning the infected into (albeit cute) monsters. Dr. Kevin, intent on fighting the virus and healing those infected, needs your help to succeed.

With his trusty team of nurse Honeydew and nurse George the Chicken, you will operate on those affected by the monster virus. The object of the game is to destroy all the virii that inhabit the body of the patient. To do this, use your trusty stylus to click on at least three identical virii blobs to create a triangle, erasing the offending disease particles and hopefully getting closer to healing the patient.

Time is of the essence as you race against the growing virus to save Cluck Norris, Cattie Fisher, and Bull Oosley among others – yes, it’s just that cute.

A blast from the past:
Math BlasterMath Blaster in the Prime Adventure
Release date: 26 May 2009
Publisher: Majesco
Developer: Knowledge Adventure
Genre: Educational/Action
Other systems: DS exclusive

As with many things that we remember fondly from our childhood,  may not be a good idea for me to revisit with this game but really, who couldn’t benefit from practicing their basic math skills?

The Blaster franchise, created back in 1987, is expected to release its next installment of the Math Blaster series to help a new generation of students have their cake and learn math too, as it were.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to soar through outer space in an experimental spaceship, fighting evil robots that are taking over the universe, kidnapping other robots and generally ruining your graduation from Blaster Corps Academy. Robots sure do get a bad rap, but they’re good at math so you need to be better if you want to defeat them.

Unfortunately, the title is misleading and there will be no prime number problems to conquer, however expect addition, subtraction and multiplication with 20 levels and three different difficulty modes to choose from. Enjoy watching your elementary aged child or late twenties significant other play alone or with up to three friends.

Something to play on a rainy day:
Secret Files TungustaSecret Files Tunguska
Release date: 19 May 2009
Publisher: Deep Silver
Developer: Fusionsphere Systems
Genre: Adventure/Mystery
Other systems: PC and Wii

This point and click game is loosely based on the events in Tunguska, Russia on July 30, 1908, where a powerful explosion engulfed the area in an inferno, leaving nothing but ashes and no explanation as to what happened. I am a fiend for bizarre/oddities/unexplained and that’s really the only reason why this game is on my list, however ’scientists’ have since ruined the mystery of Tunguska by explaining how a meteor could plausibly create the same effect. Killjoys.

Otherwise, not much is known about the game save for the beautiful graphics, over 100 meticulously detailed locations and creative puzzles that the player will encounter.

What all the hot girls are playing:

Harvest Moon Frantic FarmingHarvest Moon: Frantic Farming
Release date: 29 May 2009
Publisher: Natsume
Developer: Natsume
Genre: Puzzle/Adventure
Other systems: DS exclusive

I’m a hot girl and I’m going to be playing this game once it’s released so so far I’m 100% right.

Harvest Moon has a strong following of devoted fans, from kiddies to soccer moms and all those in between. There’s already excited talk on the forums for this game being released next month.

Set on Sunny Island, players can choose between 12 different characters, each with their own stories and perspectives of the events happening in the game. For some strange reason the crops have been growing out of control all over the island and only you, the player, are able to do anything about it. Solve mysteries in story mode or puzzle mode alone or with up to four other friends (hot girl friends would be a be a good choice) and unlock art, music and other fun surprises.

What everyone is talking about:

Ghostbusters The Video GameGhostbusters: The Video Game
Release date: 16 June 2009
Publisher: Atari
Developer: Red Fly Studios
Genre: Action
Other systems: Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PC & Wii

This game is considered the sequel to the 80s hit movies, Ghostbusters 1 and 2 where you, as a new recruit to the team, work along side Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Harold Ramis and Bill Murray, reprising their original roles, to save New York City from an array of paranormal creatures.

The game has been written by the original Ghostbusters writers, Aykroyd and Ramis which is a win for fans. Expect more than just original cast members lending their voices though. The game will also have two of the more popular monsters from the movies; Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Explore new gizmos and weapons in your quest to rid Manhattan of ghosts and ghouls, but as always, prepare to get slimed.
