When it was first announced that Samuel Bayer was directing a new re-imaging of A Nightmare on Elm Street that would not include Robert Englund donning the ugly sweater and bladed glove, the internet was abuzz with negative hype. It got worse as rumors swirled around that Robert Knepper would be assuming the role. Now Knepper, who is one creepy mofo in his own right (check out Prison Break if you don’t believe me), wouldn’t, in my opinion have been a bad choice. Apparently millions of fanboys and girls across the vast expanse that is known as the interweb disagreed with me. It would appear that they have (sort of) gotten their wish.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting today that Jackie Earle Haley
is confirmed to be the new twisted, mangled, deformed face of Freddy Kreuger. I think that anybody who saw his chilling performance as Rorschach in The Watchmen would agree with me when I say that no bad can come of this. I would have been cool with Knepper, but I’m loving Jackie Earle Haley in the role. I just hope that this doesn’t delay the Transmetropolitan movie that will inevitably be coming, because I actually think that Haley is Spider Jerusalem and he has just assumed the persona of Haley for a piece he is writing. Remember that you heard that here first.
Wes Craven’s new Nightmare project will hit theaters next year and apparently has taken a big step towards being accepted by the fan geeks. Filming starts May 5th
