Fact: No living Beatle will ever listen to your crappy demo tape

It’s Beatlemania all over again with the release of Beatles: Rock Band on September 9th.  The Fab Four head to the consoles as the most-anticipated rhythm title this side of the first Rock Band. With over 40 tracks and future full album releases, Beatles fans should expect to rediscover the formula that revolutionized popular music for the next little while. In other news, Simon Le Bon (that’s Simon the Good, for you linguists) fans waiting for a Duran Duran: Rock Band might have to wait a while longer. Beatles: Rock Band might engulf the entire consciousness of Western Civilization, but there are a few other titles that should interest other gamers.

Don't even think of taking that Chevette off-road

Off-road enthusiasts can look forward to more rally action with the release of Dirt 2, the sequel to the 2007 racing sim. For gamers looking for some kid-oriented platform action, there’s Mini-Ninjas from developer IO Interactive, known for the un-family-friendly game series Hitman and game-critic litmus test Kane and Lynch. If revisionist history seem like an appealing prospect, Darkest of Days seeks to fulfill those aspirations, along with  bringing modern and futuristic weaponry into historical battles, all the way back to the Roman era and into World War II. Players looking for a more authentic WWII experience will find flight sim IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey closer to the history books.

This sword cannot cut the tension between you and that Denny's waitress

2D action fans should jump at the chance to play Muramasa: The Demon Blade for the Nintendo Wii, from the developer of Playstation 2 title Odin Sphere. Reliving recent video game history is now more cost-effective with the release of Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition for the Playstation 3 and Capcom Platinum Hits Triple Pack for the Xbox 360. Gamers looking for a distraction from the daily commute will find Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days an appropriate time sink. And for Nintendo DS, there’s Konami’s Ant Nation, in which the players trains an ant army to protect the Earth from an alien invasion.

Make jerky out of this majestic beast

For those that think the yearly Madden title is the spawn of Michael Vick and a demonic succubus, there’s always Cabela’s Outdoor Adventures 2010. Maybe the game is meant to fill in the gaps in the hunting season. I can’t imagine playing this game without both the assault rifle and a half-full beer can peripherals. Next week: Make sure to vote on the Superhuman Registration Act.
