It has been leaked that there will be a new Mad Max movie and alongside the new movie a PS3 game. This news comes from the Ain’t It Cool newsfeed, reportedly from a informant from Down Under. The rumored new movie will be a return to Mad Max for director George Miller, previously the director for animated feature Happy Feet. The new movie will not continue the tale of Ethan Embry, a character popularized by Mel Gibson.
There haven’t been enough really good post-apocalyptic tales of human survival in recent years; a new movie in the Mad Max series should change that quickly, if George Miller is involved. I really enjoyed the personal role-playing involved in watching the various Mad Max movies; asking yourself how you would deal with particular situation, or how to protect your resources. It’ll be interesting to see how a new Mad Max movie will play out, given the fact that the main character in the previous films will be absent. I like the idea of further exploring the Mad Max universe with a new protagonist and story; if the movie-going public is anything like I anticipate, this movie might only succeed as a blockbuster summer movie. If i had to speculate casting, I would probably guess that producers are looking at either Eric Bana or possibly Hugh Jackman, if he can fit Mad Max in to his singing and dancing/work schedule. The news of a Playstation 3 game actually sounds quite interesting, provided that it is an open world adventure similar to Fallout 3, including slow-motion headshots. A game including a management of resources and manpower would be a good first step. The most cost-effective and also least desired alternative would be a budget title similar to the Yaris game available on the Xbox Marketplace. Regardless of the production status, I’m looking forward to a post-apocalytic movie with lasting appeal. The Mad Max series has stood the test of time and I’m all for a new addition to the series.
