watchmen All Along the Watchmen: New Releases on DVD and Blu ray for July 21

It’s all post-modern superheroism and teenage angst (in 3D) this week in DVD releases. The first big release is Watchmen. Zach Snyder’s homage to Alan Moore’s best-selling graphic novel will release with the long-awaited extended Director’s Cut of the film, minus one giant psychic squid. Watchmen head to home video with a large variety of special editions on both DVD and Blu-ray to choose from, including Watchemen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience, which features the Extended Director’s Cut of the film on Blu-ray, along with the two-part The End is Nigh game series for the PS3. It’s an overwhelming decision that even Veidt would struggle with. Next up is Coraline, the next-gen stop-motion animation feature adapted from the children’s novel written by Neil Gaiman. Featuring the voice talents of Dakota Fanning and Teri Hatcher, the film details an abstract interpretation of teen angst, without the My Chemical Romance soundtrack. Coraline is available in various edition on both DVD and Blu-ray. If that’s not enough for stop-motion maniacs (if they can tear themselves away from their Ray Harryhausen shrines), there’s the DVD release of Robot Chicken: Star Wars – Episode II, the follow-up to fan-favorite Robot Chicken: Star Wars. From the twisted minds of Seth Green and Matt Senreich, Episode II will have Star Wars fanboys looking at the Emporer in a whole new way. Sci-fi fans will exclaim “ this is like déjà vu all over again” Yogi Berra-style with the release of Stargate SG-1 Children of the Gods Final Cut, a re-worked edition of the television pilot for the series that took Stargate beyond even the greatest expectations of Kurt Russell. And Logan leads the X-Men in the second volume of the series Wolverine and the X-Men: Deadly Enemies. Wolvie takes on the Hulk in this volume, but it’s over before you can say Damon Lindeloff, as Logan helps Hulk find a cure. Next Week: GL and the Sunshine Band.
