If the new Transformer comic is `more than meets the eye`, it doesn`t show in the first couple panels. The first page of the upcoming TRANSFORMERS ongoing monthly from publisher IDW is best described as underwhelming, featuring a power station, an explosion, and a Transformer standing triumphant in the aftermath. The Transformer on the first page doesn`t sport either an Autobot or Decepticon emblem, but it appears to be an new iteration of reluctant Decepticon foot-soldier Dropkick. Or smooth-talking Autobot Jazz. Without the iconic Autobot and Decepticon emblems, it`s difficult to even tell which faction the `Bot in the panel is from. In the previous panel there is also either a minivan or utility van; maybe we can expect some MILFs in the new ongoing comic adaptation. The ongoing Transformers title is written by Mike Costa with artwork by Don Figueroa and is set to release this November, most likely just in time for the Tranformers 2: Rise of the Fallen Blu-ray release, along with two other miniseries “Transformers: Bumblebee” and “Transformers: The Last Stand.” If the $600 million box office is any indication of the success of the Transformer franchise, make sure you shop early this holiday season to avoid the rush of festive doucebag shoppers.

I’m looking forward to checking out this ongoing monthly from IDW. First of all, the designs for the Transformers look amazing. The designs seem more inspired by the original Generation 1 animated series compared to the insect-like alien lifeforms from the movie franchise. The look is one thing, but I’m hoping for more stories about the Transformers and the ongoing (possibly monthly) battle for control over the Energon resource. In the meantime, I’ll probably check out a few of the miniseries available from IDW in anticipation of the November release. I’m sold if the comic is more ‘robots in disguise’, and less ‘one-liners in disguise’.
