Pixel Junk MonstersI had the opportunity to revisit this game the other day and had completely forgotten how much I love this real-time strategy game. Beware, this game can become addictive. I recall a certain Chickenbone was unable to tear himself away from it when it was first downloaded on his PS3 despite the company that was over.

In the game, you have a troop of helpless creatures waiting for doom as waves of monsters slowly make their way down paths to eat them. Their only defense is a tiki-tricked out creature (you) that collects gold coins from trees and fallen enemies to turn the forest into battle towers that can throw out arrows, cannons and freeze rays among other things. Green/blue gems can also be collected in the same way as coins, to be used to upgrade towers for more firepower. In the event that gems are scarce, your tiki character can stand in front of these structures and use good old manpower to reinforce and upgrade them.

Take care to use strategy when building your defense though, as enemies get stronger with every wave and faster with every level. This is definitely a great game to download for your PS3 and easy to pick up and put down without being lost for what to do next.

Five weird tiki guys out of five.

  1. I believe you are confusing me with your neglecting boyfriend and his tubby sidekick Cool Terry.  Once those meatheads got their hooks into my controllers, I was done with Monsters for the evening.

  2. Yes, I suppose everyone sort of devoured the game that evening, but you have to admit, it’s fucking awesome.
