the surrogates The Real World Technology Behind Surrogates
I don’t want to rain to rain on the District 9 love-in that geeks everywhere have happening this week with the upcoming release of Neill Blomkamp’s sure to be hit movie. I’m looking forward to seeing District 9, but the hype has been so overwhelming that I wanted to make sure that nobody forgets that there are some other science fiction movies coming up. One in particular that I have high hopes for is Surrogates. It’s based on Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele’s critically acclaimedTop Shelf comic The Surrogates, (there is also a prequel to the comic) about the fusing of virtual technology and cybernetics, and with strong source material has the potential to be awesome. Of course any time the source material is a comic, and a really well done comic at that, it also has the potential to be an enormous disappointment. A new trailer came out a few days ago and hopefully you’ve seen it because I decided to throw up this look at the real life technology that was used as the basis for the movie’s fictional technology instead of the same trailer everybody else is posting. I thought that this would be a little more interesting. It’s pretty standard movie hype documentary style video, but still interesting, enjoy.
