4516 30772C 200x300 Cool Terry Reviews Joamette Gils Blackbirds This is not a comic I would normally read, no super powers or crazy mechanical suits, no laser beams or big explosions. This is a story about being lost and finding someone to connect with.  Anyways,  for those of you who are into comics with a message I’d say this is for you.   The ending is the best part because Dante (that’s the main character folks) isn’t redeemed at the end so much as he finds a friend to share with and lean on which makes this comic more real then if lets say the whole story was wrapped up nice at the end with a pretty little bow (that bow being  a complete change of the characters ways where he makes peace with everyone and everything) . Those are just my thoughts take them or leave them,

The art here is very minimalistic and while at first I was put off, once the story finishes the art really suits the comic.   I would not enjoy seeing this in color or all flashy, the simplicity of the art works better and forces you to focus more on the story. So to give you a run down of the story Dante is a one winged guy trying to deal  with living in a discriminating world and coming from the ghetto  (man how unlucky can one guy be).  So with a chip on his shoulder he ventures out to find a job to help his family and is rejected alot, this leads him to finding another person out in the world who like him feels the pain of discrimination and this leads to what looks like a life changing moment.

So if you like independent comics and have 4 dollars to spare (and really it’s only 4 bucks you have it) download Blackbirds you might just like it. I’m not usually all touchy-feely but the story works well,  Joamette Gil (that’s the Writer and Illustrator that’s right she did both) did a good job here so if you like the touchy-feely stuff (nothing wrong with that) buy this.
