wosbrentweeks large 300x300 Review The Way of Shadows

Hello book lovers, I thought I would take a moment of your time and let you know what I’m reading. A couple of weeks ago as I was walking through the bookstore something a little out of the ordinary caught my eye.  Now I had never heard of this writer, Brent Weeks, but the title and the tag line got my attention (The Way of Shadows – The perfect killer has no friends. Only targets.), so I picked up a copy and then proceeded to read it in a couple of days.  Simply put  I could not put it down,  I ran out and picked up the other 2 books in the trilogy and I am currently engrossed with the third installment of the series.  These books are great,  I love the characters in this unheralded must read, for fantasy lovers.  Brent Weeks first time out as an author is a resounding success, after six months he as made the New York Times extended Bestseller List at #31. Not a bad accomplishment on your first time out I would say.

The first book is about Azoth a guild rat (street thief) who in an attempt to make a better life gets himself apprenticed to what some would say the world’s greatest wetboy (assassin) Durzo Blint. The trilogy follows Azoth through his apprenticeship and into his career as a wetboy and the struggles he encounters as he tries to learn his craft and leave all those he knew behind. I want to say more but fear of giving away anything from this trilogy holds my tongue (or fingers in this case). So if you have some free time and coin pick up these books and enter the world of Midcyru with it’s underworld bosses, wetboys, deaders, mages, and Godkings, you will not be disappointed.

I wanted to give everybody the head up on this series, once I finish the trilogy, I’ll give you a more in depth look at the series.

Ah, I think I saw these books at Borders. I thought they looked good, but I’m in the middle of larry niven’s ringworld series, a garth nix series, tolkiens LOTR, and all the starwars books… notime!

Reading this trilogy has ruined me for every other book i’ve read since.  They were so great.  There should be a push to make them into a movie.

I just finished reading this seris, and I’d have to put it on my list of favorite books which includes LOTR, Wheel of time, and Dune books. It is very different then them but right now i personally like this book a whole lot more.
