rogue5 There Was a New Rogue Squadron Game for Wii...Was
Back in October, before we’d started eatsleepgeek, there was a rumor floating around that made me do the happy dance. Apparently Lucasarts was going to bring us all of the Rogue Squadron games on one disk. Not only that, but the disk would have updated visuals and wii motion controls as well. I can almost guarantee that the improved visuals would have been a disappointment, and I know that the wii motion controls would have never been as cool in the game as they are in my imagination right now. Still though, Factor 5 gave me what I consider to be the deepest feeling of immersion into the Star Wars universe that a video game has been able to provide, and dammit I like going to the Star Wars universe. So when rumors began to make their way onto the web about this offering I was pretty pumped up about it.

Turns out to be a good news/ bad news scenario. Mostly bad though. It looks like the rumors were all true. The bad part though is that the game probably won’t ever see the inside of a wii. Factor 5 went out of business in December of last year, and a lawsuit filed by the former employees of the company alleges that before closing their doors the company’s founders illegally transferred the source code for the game to White Harvest (who was Blue Harvest at the time) in exchange for cash that should have been used to whittle down the outstanding $900,000 Factor Five owed them. I’m not a lawyer, but I think that means we’ll probably never see the game. I’m just guessing that the courts won’t let White Harvest use the source code until the employees are paid, and I’m also pretty sure they’re not going to pay twice for the source code (although who really knows). So this is really just a cruel reminder of a game I would have loved, that I’ll probably never get to play.
