sonic 3 Sonic Returns... AgainLooks like we can expect the return of mid-90s nostalgia with the announcement of Sega Vintage Classics 2, to be released on both Xbox Live and the Playstation Network. Each title will be a downloadable game sold indvidually. The titles will feature a look that is “re-worked for high definition,” and include leaderboards with the addition of online play on select titles. Some of the titles that will be released include two from the fan-favorite Sonic series, Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles; the return of Comix Zone will definitely be welcomed by beat-em-up fans; and Gunstar Heroes looks to extend the value of the popular GENESIS title with online play.

I can’t say that I’m particularly pleased with the direction SEGA is taking with the release of its classic titles. Several of the announced titles were already released a few months ago on Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, minus online leaderboards and online play. These are features that should have been included with this collection. Players will not be willing to spend their hard-earned cash on an individually sold title when they could just as easily purchase the Ultimate Genesis Collection which includes a few of these titles a part of a 30 game collection. Although, I might reconsider if there is mention of the Streets of Rage series.
