During an interview with wired.com in anticipation of upcoming dark comedy Observe And Report, star Seth Rogen talks about the new film, his work on The Green Hornet, and his current favorite comic book writers. Its only fitting that the co-writer of feature films Superbad and Pineapple Express would gravitate towards the absurd comedy and social commentary of mad genius Garth Ennis, which he names as his favorite writer. Rogen continues with a hit that reads like Wizard’s Top 10. Here’s the complete list:
- Garth Ennis
- Warren Ellis
- Mark Millar
- Brian K. Vaughan
- J. Michael Stryzinski
- Ed Brubaker
Pretty extensive list. I have read a few select titles from a few of the writers on this list; mostly this list reminds me of how far behind I am in comics. I have to finish Ennis’s breakout series PREACHER, and his current title THE BOYS; the addition of Vaughan reminds me that I have to catch up on Y: THE LAST MAN; I heard Stryzinski had a decent run on SPIDER-MAN; and need to look into the Brubaker stuff, including Daredevil and Captain America. Absent from the list are a few high-profile writers such as Jeph Loeb and Robert Kirkman. I’ll have to add a few titles written by these guys to my short list.
