From the people that brought you disgruntled employees and exorbitant shipping fees are a new set of stamps features everyone’s favorite jaundiced, working-class, cartoon family ‘The Simpsons’. Starting May 7 you can expect too see the faces of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie on the front of stamps distributed by the United States Postal Service, only two years after The Simpson’s Movie, when there might be actual interest in a Simpsons stamp set. Pre-orders are now available, and the stamps are in limited supply (hint: all stamps are in limited supply.
Only 20 short years ago The Simpsons jumped into the mainstream consciousness. You couldn’t look left without seeing some piece of Simpson merch. Except on stamps, which previously have included Superman and Elvis (that would be a stellar team-up; or fight for that matter), but have avoided the lure of a Simpsons stamp set. As I recall, the closest comparison here in Canada was a stamp set several years ago featuring Canadian superheroes. For the uninformed, Canadian superheroes uphold orinciples of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and our Canadian way of life. Mostly, Canadian superheroes stay as far from public consciousness as possible.
