Starting next month, Spidey will face-off against a familiar foe in the form of the Vulture, a standard in Spider-Man’s Rogues Gallery; but with a new character taking on the mantle of the Vulture, Spider-Man will be taking an entirely new challenge. Writer Mark Waid is excited about introducing the new Vulture in the upcoming three-issue story arc “24/7″, beginning with AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #592. Waid’s Vulture will retain some qualities of previous incarnations of the Vulture, originally Adrian Toome; Waid talks of these qualities: “Wings. An imposing, disturbing silhouette and look. A sense of decay.”, and goes on to mention that “The new Vulture has at least one super-power that Toomes did not—and it throws Spidey into a tailspin!”
Re-introducing one of Spidey’s original foes will no doubt result in an increase in interest in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN; especially for fans familiar with the Vulture character. Paired with a cover by Joe Q. and this is guaranteed to bring in old fans and new fans alike. If ‘Spider-Man 4′ includes the Vulture in a focused storyline as the primary villain, it will change the course in a movie franchise that has seen both past mainstream success and also appealed to fans (i.e. ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Spider-Man 2′).
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #592 is set to release April 22.
