The Book of Eli Poster Spoilers Included: The Book of Eli, Such a Good Read I Couldnt Put This Movie Down

Sometimes there are those movies that you hear nothing about until an add flashes in front of your face giving you a couple of months notice before it’s release date. Book of Eli was one of those movies. I’m like most of you out there that if you barely hear about something chances are good that it might not be worth your time. Well since I can’t ever remember seeing a bad Denzel Washington movie and loving the post-apocalyptic scenario, I decided to check out The Book of Eli.

“In the future where hairless cats roam free and people must protect there eyes from the intense brightness of the sun, a man, a lone traveler by the name of Eli (Denzel Washington) who’s mission is to head west and deliver a book. Along his way the traveler comes in contact with a very greedy and power hungry man, Carnegie (Gary Oldman) who discovers that the book the traveler holds, is a key to great power. Eli soon teams up with a young woman Solara (Mila Kunis) and the two of them tread West in attempt to make it to an unknown destination before Carnegie gets them and the book.”

If anyone was waiting for a Fallout movie, this is as close as your gonna get. Book of Eli is beautifully done with every care taken into consideration to make you feel that this world was truly ruined by warfare. Cars are burned, people are dressed up in ragged clothing, water is in very short supply. There doesn’t seem to be anything one would feel is missing in the way a post-apocalypse movie should be. Even the idea of keeping weapons cleaned and in top operating condition, which was a big part in surviving the ruined scape of Fallout also play a huge roll in the movie. One will notice it right away when Eli is confronted by a dozen heavily armed men.

Unlike Fallout, The Book of Eli shows how much the world falls into dispair. Sure people are better off living in towns where they offer protection but that isn’t really true when it comes to women. Women are treated with malice, used, abused and if they are caught out in the open wastelands then they are usually rapped. Because of the  many intense  scenes that depict this type of treatment towards women,  I issue a word of caution to people who find this type of act disturbing, especially in the very beginning when we are introduced to Eli.

You can have the best story in the world but without the right actors to help tell that story, it falls short of it’s mark and can easily be forgotten. With this cast, we not only get a great story but we have it delivered with some of the best talent Hollywood has to offer. Denzel was on beat, never missing a mark providing the right amount of pretending to make his character to be not only believable but also someone you can fallow with great interest. Gary Oldman, a very experienced actor as well, plays his this part like all his other parts with originality. Just like Christian Bale giving each American character he plays, Oldman gives a whole different persona to each character he plays. The real shocker in the line up was Milna Kunis who (until I viewed this movie) was someone I felt couldn’t get out of her ditsy like character ever since she made it big in That 70’s Show. If she plays more characters the way she played Solara, then we should be in for a treat when she comes out with more movies.

I highly suggest that if you haven’t seen it then please do,  I’m sure you will be taken away by this movie as I have. There is no way this movie is going to escape my library when it comes out on Blu-Ray
