alice in wonderland1 Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland and What We Found There

I don’t know what’s more of a slap in the face, the fact that your idea of an Alice in Wonderland movie has not moved from pre-production hell since about 2002, or the fact that another version by Tim Burton is going to be out around March of 2010. Hm….that’s a toughy.

Sadly we may never see American McGee’s Alice any time soon but at least we have another one to tie us over. Tim Burton the director of Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow, brings us his marvelous vision of Alice in Wonderland. The story apparently is a sequel, where Alice is now grown up and instead of being forced to be wed, she runs away only to follow a certain white rabbit who brings her back to Wonderland. There she must remember, for she has been called upon by the creatures of Wonderland to help them revolt against the Red Queen.

This story seems mighty close to the American McGee’s version which was made as a PC game where Alice after coming back from Wonderland a second time is caught in a house fire which kills her parents but leaves her unscathed. She becomes suicidal and catatonic blaming herself for her parents death. While being locked away in a mental institution Alice is called once again by the White Rabbit who takes her back, but it isn’t the Wonderland she once remembered. The creatures of Wonderland are being hunted and killed, death and destruction are around every turn. With a very large butcher knife in hand Alice must fight to regain peace back in Wonderland and end the rule of the Red Queen once and for all.

As you can see by the pictures bellow that this movie is going to me the cat’s meow. The pictures show a world which will be a treat to the eyes and hopefully a treat to the rest of the senses when it finally comes out. What’s next after this movie you say? well Tim is currently working on a few more films; Frankenweenie, 1984 and Dark Shadows all which I’m sure will amaze us with style and wonder.

  1. Once upon a time, there was a young visionary director called Tim Burton who lent his unique style to such modern fables as Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands as well as the poignant character study about the art of film-making, Ed Wood. He was accompanied by an unusual acting talent called Johnny Depp, an off-kilter leading man who lent his remarkable physical grace to every character he portrayed. Together, they joined the ranks of Scorsese/De Niro and Herzog/Kinski as one of the seminal actor-director teams in the history of cinema.
