You’ll never look at immigration policy the same way again. The 2009-2010 development schedule at Comedy Central is highlighted by a new sci-fi animated series Ugly Americans, which will be developed and produced by former Simpsons writer David Stern. The seven-episode run of series, set to air in early 2010, is inspired by the 5On web series, created by Devin Clark. Clark is set serve as a producer on the series. Set in an alternate-universe New York City, Ugly Americans follows the life of Mark Lilly, a social worker for the Department of Immigration, in a New York in which aliens, robots and monsters co-exist.
The idea behind Ugly Americans is solid; the 5On web series is a hilarious take on the average person ’street interviews’ on every local news broadcast. Each episode of the series features a topic of dicussion and five opinions frome of one of many sci-fi standards; the first episodes has five aliens sounding off on the end of the Sopranos. If the series is able to keep the humor of the web series, it will be one to watch.
