I’m not sure if it’s because vampires seem to be the latest rage these days, but between True Blood and Twilight it seems like you can’t throw a vial of holy water or swing a cross without hitting a vampire of some sort or another. After powering through all 7 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in less than 2 months, even I’m getting caught up in all the hype, and I’ve always hated vampires. They’re so pale, creepy, and they do better getting girls than I ever did. Despite an influx dashing undead heartthrobs into pop culture circles over the past couple of years that I’ve generally not enjoyed, there is one upcoming vampire flick that fascinates me and I wanted to share it with you because it’s getting less attention than the upcoming WB vamp soap opera, and that’s not right.
Daybreakers is a different take on vampires. The movie takes place in 2019, and it’s about a world where vampires make up the majority of the population and humans have become a 2nd class species. Forced into hiding after a mysterious plague turns most of the world into bloodsuckers, humans have been hunted to the brink of extinction.
When a vampire scientist who refuses to feed on human blood tries to find a substitute form of nourishment (I guess there’s no TruBlood in 2019) he comes across a secret his vampire brethren will kill for, but that could save humankind. The movie is written and directed by Peter and Michael Spierig ,stars Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Isabel Lucas, and comes to theaters January 8th. Here’s the trailer, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did
