Well the WWDC or to those who don’t know the Worldwide Developers Conference was held today and of course it’s all about Apple. Now everyone and their dog knows that Apple is the dominant force in the world of music players and cell phones, and while they don’t dominate to the same extent when it comes to computers they are getting there within that marketplace as well. Compared to 10 years ago when you almost never knew anyone with an Apple and all that Apple did make was computers and kick ass computers at that; and yet the only people you might ever know who owned, one would be teachers, musicians, graphic designers, video editors and photographers. Today though, ever since the release of the iPod, Apple has sky rocketed into fame. They have released many great products since then but the one that is really on everybody’s minds toady is the new improved iPhone. Well readers your in luck because Dan X. has information for you iPhonefanatics.
If you had played with the iPhone first gen you were blown away by how how it operated and looked. It was like nothing that was released before, and that was true. Apple opened a flood gate for other cell phone companies to finally start releasing technology that they had been sitting upon for years and give people what they want. Sure the phone wasn’t all that fast in the way of processor speed and some of the features suffered because of it. Finally there was a phone for programmers; and program they did. As soon as people were able to jail brake (unlocking in other words) the phone applications galore were sent out for anyone who wanted to customize their phone.
A year later the new iPhone 3G hit the market. What an improvement, and even better was the ability of it utilizing the 3G network to allow people to gain even more access to the cellar network for videos, music, and browsing. The memory was increased and the phone was able to be a tad smaller. Sure there was no polished aluminum background but we were introduced to two different colors and a much cheaper price point unlike the changing prices of the first incarnation. Still the phone suffered by plagues of software issues with the 3G network that apple scrambled to patch in order to clear everything up. The phone still suffered from programs that should have been there from the start, simple things like quick delete, copy and paste functions, and voice dialing needed to be included.
Now a year later and like clockwork Apple has graced us with an all new iPhone, aptly named the iPhone 3G S. This new version look almost identical to the 3G version but Apple this time listened to the customer and I am pleased to introduce the all new iPhone 3G S.
Well what does this new version have you ask? well I have a list below of what you’ll expect for the all new iPhone 3G S.
- Tethering will now be open for customers to hook up their phone to their computer to gain access to the internet. This will use both USB and Bluetooth interfaces.
- MMS which the first two phones lacked (unless you Jail Broke them) which will now allow you to send pictures via text message.
- A camera that won’t only take pictures with the built in auto focus but will also allow you to record video. Will video be part of MMS? One can hope.
- A really cool app called Find My iPhone which will allow you to track down your (stolen) phone from any browser. The catch is you have to subscribe to MobileMe but not only can you track your phone down but also wipe the handheld or (which would only happen if you live by yourself) allow you to locate your phone around the house by sending it a signal that will let it ring even if the ringer is off. I can see hackers having fun with this App.
- Bluetooth and dock connector communication with other devices, including other iPhones. Lets hope you can send files this way as well such as picks.
- One of the best features yet is an extended battery life. On the 3G iPhone one would get approximately up to 5 hours talk time / data on 3G, 10 hours on 2G,up to 6 hours data on WiFi, up to 24 hours audio, up to 7 hours video. But now the user should be able to get up to 5 hours talk time / data on 3G, 12 hours on 2G, up to 9 hours data on WiFi, up to 30 hours audio, up to 10 hours video. This sounds impressive but we all know it’ll only really give you an extra half hour of usage, I kid I kid.
- And much, much more….
Now whats this all gonna set you back? well that’s the best part. There are two different versions one with 16GB and 32GB, and they are going for $199 and $299 for new customers and if you’re doing a hardware upgrade it’ll be $399 and $499. Why is the hardware up grade so much more? Well didn’t you get a deal when you first signed up on your contact? sure you did, but you also signed a contract for a certain amount of years. When one upgrades they are technically breaking the contract, so the phone to you is more.
Hope you all enjoy, the release date is June 19th.
