300 movie Zack Snyder Gives Us a Glimpse at the 300 Sequel

While promoting the release of the Watchmen DVD Zack Snyder was kind enough to throw a few 300 sequel bones our way. Snyder had this to say about the impending sequel:

I know for a fact that Frank Miller is writing right now. He’s drawing away and seems to be knee-deep in it. I think he’s going to head back to Greece again and do another reconnaissance.

Interesting, now I’m not for a second suggesting that Frank Miller is anything less than a stellar writer, but shouldn’t it take him about a week to come up with a script, I mean the first flick wasn’t popular because of it’s snappy and witty dialog. He’s hardly writing Great Expectations. Aside from the issue of how long it is going to take to write a script for the sequel, the first movie came out over two years ago and Frank Miller is only getting around to doing reconnaissance now? Granted, Frank Miller dosn’t clear his schedule with me, but c’mon you guys strike while the iron is hot.

Snyder also suggested that the sequel won’t be a huge departure from the first movie.

I think we would use the same technology… I don’t want it to look too Star Wars-ian… Just from what Miller told me, it would be bigger as far as landscape and terrain. We’re going to see Athens and the Aegean and other places. There would be an opportunity for bigger visions, though I’d hope for the same aesthetic. The tech we used for ‘300′ was not a revolution. It’s basically what the weatherman has.

Man, I would love to see Tom Sherry kick in the doors at the Super Doppler 7 Radar Center, lay a beat down of epic proportions on Mother Nature and kick her sorry ass in to a bottomless pit…but I digress. So while it’s not exactly blockbuster news, it’s good to know that we can expect more of what made 300 a success from Snyder and Miller the second time round. Now getting back to the first issue, I know Snyder made Watchmen, which couldn’t have been easy or quick. But what the hell has Frank Miller been working on that he’s just getting around to writing this thing now? The third installment of the DKR trilogy? Stay tuned.
