I’ve been waiting for a game that featured the over-the-top violence of playstataion classic Loaded with the addictive gameplay of Smash TV. Zombie Apocalypse has answered the call. Downloadable title Zombie Apocalypse looks to revive classic arcade action on Xbox Live and Playstation Network. Some details were revealed in a recent feature on the Playstation Blog. The four-player co-op game takes a cue from games like Robotron: 2084 and Smash Tv, using both analog sticks. Players will take on the role of four strangely familiar survivors. From game designer John Slavin:
We started with Harlan Woods, heavily inspired by the lead character in George Romero’s original Night of the Living Dead film. We then added Natalie Flores, our tough but mentally-unstable female lead. A bartender with no customers left alive to serve double shots to, she’s content to serve up plenty of double-ought shots to zombies. To round out the roster we added Ed Fragsen, the lonely and broken security guard with nothing left to lose, and Jimmy86, the arcade-rat geek who’s really a reflection of the designers themselves set loose on the zombie hoards as though it were a game come to life.
One of the main features of the game are the environments; players will be able to interact with the environment, utilizing a jet turbine or a garbage compactor to rack up the zombie kills. Thinking about the theme of the game, I’m reminded of the Genesis/SNES classic Zombies Ate My Neigbors, which featured a brother and sister team on a mission to search for any survivors and destroy any zombies. If it’s anything like that game, this will be a must-have download game.
